Almost anything (german version). I have installed the german version by doing the following steps, as normal user (do not use the root Account !) and with virgin wine: wine /path/to/setup.exe -LGNTFORCE && wine /path/to/SS2Tool_v2.9.1.exe && cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Sshock2 && 7z x -y /path/to/SS2_DeutschPatch_1.4.7z; In the setup you should install the Indeo Codec to see the films. Immidiately end the setup and install the SS2Tool from http://www.strangebedfellows.de, there you can also find the SS2_DeutschPatch, which you should also install before playing the first time. Then you should install all mod's you want, shtup, rebirth, to name some. You could also try to use the ModManager from strangebedfellows. I was simply amazed how straightforward the game runs, after reading about the probs with w2k, wxp, ... Wine 1.1.38 has also worked very well. Thanks also to the folks at strangebedfellows
What does not
- The videos are kind of coarse - Sometimes there are small texturing artefacts, but no prob - Sometimes the keyboard is uninitialized after a fresh start, but restarting SS2 helps. - Sometimes I had crashes, but not very often, saving the game helps. - Sometimes video mode was not switched back when the game was ended.
What was not tested
- Multiplayer Mode

Game will be randomly crashed on multicore systems. This is bug of Dark Engine (see bug #9844 for more info).
Launch game via taskset program:
taskset -c 1 wine Shock.exe
The game's installer refuses to install if it detects Windows 2k or later. To work around this, you have two options. First, you can run winecfg and set the Windows version to Windows 98, and then run setup.exe from the CD as normal. Alternatively, you can open a terminal, navigate to the CD drive, and run the installer this way: wine "setup.exe" -lgntforce
Do a full install (Intel codec too), but do not install Direct X.
Install SS2 Tool
SS2 Tool should be the first thing you do after installing the game. It replaces the official patch, and also includes a few other critical bugfixes needed to get System Shock 2 working on modern systems. It also removes the copy protection. For better looking graphics:
