Whether the game can run without installing DirectX first or not.  Also I have Visual Studio 6 installed on my system so if any of those runtimes were required, they would already be present.

Additional Comments

I used WineTricks to install DirectX 9 (may or may not be required) and then I set sound to use the ESound driver. * Click Applications --> Wine --> Configure Wine * Click the |Audio| tab * (probably uncheck the others) * Put a check by the EsounD driver * Click [OK]
