Old friendly lovable arcview. The best release of all. Written for unix, ported to windows, even runs on vista, now we ship it back again to linux using wine. And it still works (mostly). What a great piece of software.

What works

Installs flawlessly, runs with no serious problems. Layouts, export options, raster operations, geoprocessing, map calculator, editing of tables, just about everything. All works fine.

re: wine versions: runs best on wine 1.01.  To install spatial analyst extension change the windows version in winecfg. All downloadable external extensions & scripts work fine.

What does not

May refuse to refresh after selecting a feature in the view using "identify". Simply need to zoom out. Likewise when moving tables around in project space they may disappear, but will reappear if the window is mimised and maximised. Neither of these things affects functionality.

Re: add-ons: The projection utility doesnt work: crashes out with "Run-time error 5 invalid procedure call or
argument".

also tested on wine 1.14: fonts dont work as nicely as with 1.0.1, but refresh problems noted above are solved. Unfortunately the text now over-runs the buttons. (e.g. can only see "Canc" instead of cancel. Pretty irritating, but otherwise works OK. Projection utility doesnt work in this version either.

tested on wine 1.3. Junk. Everything broken. If you need to run this program, downgrade to wine 1.01 and put up with the glitches

What was not tested

only commercial extensions tested were 3d analyst and spatial analyst - others not tested. A great variety of non-commercial user submitted extensions tested, all work fine.
