Z-Depth problem
by Tobias Jakobi on Monday March 31st 2008, 8:28
Hi there,

for those who have problems with non-existant Z-buffer. The Serious Sam engine doesn't seem to specify that it really needs a Z-buffer and hopes for the standard Z-buffer depth of 16 bits. This is not quite correct behaviour and doesn't work with wine-0.9.57 and upwards.

To fix this open the ingame console and type:
gap_iDepthBits=24
ApplyVideoMode()

More information about the bug and fix in:

Greets,
Tobias Jakobi

I try these configs in wine 1.4, 1.5.4 and others,via PlayOnLinux on clean prefix, but the polygons of the surroundings will look scattered, walls will overlap, etc. Ubuntu 12.04 , lenovo x220, integrated graphic controller.

here is the output of lspci -v | less

I followed the link you provided, and tried with wine 0.9.55(older version, which stated not to contain the bug). The graphics run OK

Sup there,

I can confirm that your console commands work!
I just tested it on my Intel HD Haswell GPU with Wine 1.7.51 32- and 64-bit.

The only thing missing was a "/" in the commands you posted, that's why it didn't work for me the first time. This is how the command has to look like:

/gap_iDepthBits=24
/ApplyVideoMode

Tipp: Depending on the version of your game, you either have to press F1 or the tilde key ~ to open the console.

Thanks for posting!

Cheers,
Alex

Use the loki installers to install the game. That way you don't have to use wine for this game.

The Linux version of SSAM:TFE is not multiplayer-compatible with the Windows version. If you try to connect the client to a dedicated server running on Windows or vice-versa, it won't work.
