Mafia

Version 1.x of the action game Mafia - The City Of Lost Heaven. It's a third person shooter with car driving and racing elements. You can compare it to newer titles of the Grand Theft Auto series. If you like GTA and games with a good story, you will love Mafia.

What works

I have fully played through the game in an earlier version of Wine without issue, have tested for a short while using this version of Wine (the settings tool, tutorial, starting a new game, loading a savegame & playing for a bit, as well as free ride mode) and it still seems to work just as well.

In a previous report a user reported that this game wouldn't start unless winegstreamer was disabled - I did not encounter this issue on any of my systems but disabling it doesn't seem to break anything so it's probably best to disable it just in case (I experienced only a couple of crashes during my playthrough and I believe those were due to game bugs).

Workarounds

What was not tested

I've not done a full playthrough with this version of Wine, but I've fully played through this using earlier versions without issue and there is no reason to suspect that this may have changed.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

This report is based on my notes and testing during the creation and maintenance of my wrapper for the GOG version of this game:

https://www.gog.com/forum/mafi...

I used Behar's widescreen fix: https://thirteenag.github.io/w... - an override for dinput8 (native, builtin) is required for it to work.

Prefix configuration:

  • CSMT was enabled
  • Wine Mono and Wine Gecko were not installed

Tested systems:

  • AMD R7 1700 @ 3.7GHz, 16GB RAM, AMD RX 480 8GB (main system)
  • Intel i7-2600k @ 4.5GHz, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 750 Ti
  • Intel i3-6100, 4GB RAM, Intel HD 530 graphics

All running Linux Mint 18.x with kernel 4.13.0-38 and stable Mesa from Padoka's PPA (for AMD/Intel graphics) or Nvidia's proprietary drivers
