Dragon Age II

Dragon Age II is the sequel to BioWare's Dragon Age series of role-playing video games and was released on March 8, 2011 in North America and March 11, 2011 in Europe. Unlike Dragon Age: Origins, the main character's race cannot be changed; however, the character's appearance, gender, class and first name are all fully customizable. Hawke, the main character, is a Lothering refugee who rises to power and becomes the Champion of the Free Marches. Dragon Age II is set in the same world as Dragon Age: Origins, but takes place in the Free Marches.

Additional Comments

-------------------------- INSTALLATION/CONFIGURATION -------------------------- I recommend buying the Steam version to avoid the problems with activation that others have mentioned. Start up Steam, buy the game, and wait for it to download and install as normal. As stated in the other guides, you will then need to use winetricks to install d3dx11_43, d3dx9_36, and devenum. I found that you do NOT need to copy d3dx11_43 to the bin_ship directory in order to get the game to run. Make sure winetricks is up-to-date enough to have d3dx11_43 in it. The latest winetricks is at: http://code.google.com/p/winetricks/ The game will install with sound disabled. Edit DragonAge.ini (located at ~/.wine/drive_c/users//My Documents/BioWare/Settings/) and set: SoundDisabled=0 UseStereoSound=1 Note that this file will not exist until you launch the game or configuration utility. I recommend launching the configuration utility and just saving the default settings in order to create the file. It's faster and avoids the possibility of a game crash. You will probably also have to edit the resolution in DragonAge.ini manually to avoid crashes at startup. The default resolution of 800x600 caused it to crash on my system after the BioWare video played. Set: ResolutionWidth=YourResolutionWidth (ex: 1920) ResolutionHeight=YourResolutionHeight (ex: 1080) FullScreen=1 (if you want fullscreen mode; set to 0 for windowed) -------- SHORTCUT -------- Want to create a script that will launch the Steam version of DA2? Use: cd "/home//.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/" export WINEDEBUG="-all" #change if you need to debug issues #ck-launch-session is necessary with WinePulse on a separate #X server. Remove the exec ck-launch-session if not running #WinePulse on a separate X server. exec ck-launch-session wine Steam.exe -applaunch 47900 ------------ MOUSE ISSUES ------------ Having issues with the camera going out of control when you try to look around? Get the wine source and apply the patch at: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6971#c437 Note that your X Server will need to support xinput2 for this to work. Most modern distros should have xinput2 (apparently it's present in Ubuntu 10.04 and up). Having other weird mouse issues? Try downgrading to wine 1.3.14. 1.3.15 and up introduced a complete overhaul of certain mouse handling code and screwed up more than a few things. I run DA2 with the xinput2 and WinePulse patches on the 1.3.14 branch of the Git repository. Note that your patched version of Wine can co-exist with other versions of Wine (such as one from your distro's package repository) if you don't run "make install" and manage your PATH environment correctly. In this case, I recommend installing DA2 under a different prefix--especially if the Wine versions are different. Not sure how to build Wine from source? HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
1. Install corefonts, fontfix, dotnet20, vcrun2005, vcrun2008, d3dx9 and winxp via winetricks.
( winvista/win7 have some sound issues in dialogs, I haven't any way to fix it ).
2. Download game via EA Download manager ( or just copy installed one from other place )
3. Download activation breaker from some dirty site ( sorry, but no way to activate game now )
4. Run wine $GAMEDIR/bin_ship/DragonAge2.exe
5. Try to kill this Ogre! :)
For 64 bits Users

In order to install the required components for Dragon Age II, you will have to create a 32 bits wineprefix and install everything there (Dragon Age Origin included).

To create your 32 bits prefix : WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winecfg

To start winetricks in that prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winetricks

To run Dragon Age from this prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix wine /path/to/DragonAge2/DragonAge2.exe
