What works

Used a clean w32 prefix and community patch 2.01 (s. 'Extra Comments'),

Splashscreen,

New game, loading/saving,

Talking to NPCs/music/sound,

Walking around/fighting,

Graphics on 'high' settings without any glitches

What does not

Before patching, mouse input does not work

A very low framerate (for I have no Windows machine, so I'm not sure it the problem appears there either, s. 'Workarounds')

Workarounds

Mouse input: Install community patch 2.01

Low Framerate:

go to /home/$USER/path/to/your/game/Ini/
edit ge3.ini
find and set 'Timer.ThreadSafe=false'

What was not tested

Playing more than an hour, questing...

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

After applying the community patch, you have to install the full d3dx9 set via winetricks, otherwise the game will crash instantly after the splashscreens.

Mouse leaving the screen?

This is a recurrent problem in SEVERAL games, and in ALL of them the solution is the SAME: either use winetricks or regedit to set MouseWarpOverdrive=force. Problem solved.
