Additional Comments

To get best possible fps try some of them or all of them: set opengl as default renderer in in wine registry specify video ram in wine registry disable strict draw ordering in wine registry use wine staging and enable csmt patch disable hdr+bloom+anti-alising+shadows ingame as they are the real fps killers all other options can range from high to ultra depending on your gpu without major fps penalty

HowTo / Notes

Sugestions

This notes was updated: December 15 - 2012

First of all, thank you for spend your time helping wine to get better,

I will like to make some suggestions to make the tests results more organized to another users.
  • Put your PC specs at the Extra Coments section like your video card, cpu, and system memory.
  • It's important to put your video card drivers into extra coments section.
  • Specify if you installed the game into a fresh prefix (or not), and what programs are you installed.
  • Tell what version of the windows emulation you use in your wine.
  • Add a comment about what is don't working.
  • Tell if you put any official or unnoficial path on your game like a diferent version of some .exe or a modification on some config file from the game.

These are just suggestions to make tests result more clean and more fast to be submitted.

Installation

You need:

  • A recent version of wine, it's recomended the last release.
  • A video card with 3D Acceleration suport on your unix and the 3D driver installed for that card.
  • It's not necessary a clean prefix, but it's recomended.

Installing:

First, install the game from your CD, open the CD folder on your unix and run the setup.exe as any other normal software, then download here the patch 1.03 and install-it on the same prefix as FarCry 2.

Be sure that you have 3D support is working, you can check by typing the follow command:

glxinfo | grep "direct rendering:"

It's also recomended to install the following fonts: tahoma.ttf, arial.ttf and verdana.ttf.

The game shoud work fine. Any problem you can see the Troubleshoot notes and post a coment or submit a bug.

Troubleshoot
FarCry 2 trees are flat, 2D... when AntiAliasing is on.

This is a known bug, until now we don't know how to fix-it. Just set AntiAliasing to None in game settinhs.

FarCry 2 crash when AntiAliasing is more than 2x.

AntiAliasing isn't working right on FarCry 2, the best thing is to keep disabled.

FayCry 2 randomly crashes.

This is related to the Bug #23045, until now, the best solution is to install secur32 trought winetrick. But even for some people, that solution doensn't work fine, the best thing in that cases is to lower the video settings, it seems that lower video settings has less crash, if that is your case, don't use anything beyond High on graphics settings.

General Bug Fix.
  • Verify if your video driver is installed properly.
  • Install FarCry 2 on a separated prefix.
  • Set prefix version to Windows XP.
  • Close FarCry 2, and reboot wine by typing wineserver -k.
