Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization

What works

The plain vanilla game seem to work reasonably well. Loading and saving works.

Mods like "We the People" (v2.7.1.1) run, but is somewhat limited in functionality. It run into memory related problems when using maps that are to large.

What does not

There are problems loading or using very large custom made maps, seem to be memory related (page fault).

Workarounds

By default the game start in full screen mode which can cause problems.

First start the game using desktop mode with a sensible resolution (like 1280x1024 for example). When you get to main game menu disable all videos, change to window mode and select desired resolution. Exit and change Wine back to normal window mode.

Game seem to be sensitive to changing resolution, even in window mode. Got a game crash when trying to load a game that was saved using a different resolution than current. Recommend to pick one resolution and stick with that.

What was not tested

Running the game for a long time. It's possible there may be memory problems in late game when there are lots of units in game.
