When it loads; and whilst in 3d mode; everything
What does not
The game loading quickly, it took 17mins between starting game and it actually loading on this machine. On my laptop (a dual core low power duo2) it loads very quickly, maybe within 3 minutes.
My main gaming machine being a Phenom II X6 1090T it took ages, a commenter suggested running a program that used cpu cycles to speed the game up, I need to check that its also not ram being filled up (8Gb on this vs 4Gb on laptop) or maybe VRAM being involved...
Either way, once loaded its fine.
What was not tested
Multiplayer but from experience it has always worked.
The game would be Gold due to the overrides I needed which are; (native unless specified) d3dx9_36 d3dx9_41 d3dx9_42 wlanapi msvcr80 gameux = disable I used winedebug to find those out, so that's all you need. However due to the fact it takes forever to load, I can't select gold.

From personal testing and user's in the threads the following workarounds work for fm2011.
At the most you will need these to get fm2011 working.
Warning for some users
It seems that mostly Nvidia users are affected by this and in a variety of a distro's; basically if you run fm2011 and it doesn't come up straight away and your last msg involves the "cannot change backbuffer count yet "
A user suggested downloading a program called "stress" and running;
stress --cpu $(number of cores you have)
This seems to help the game load quicker, it doesn't work everytime. Alternatively you can wait (faster the computer, the longer it takes from testing). I also found running another direct3d game in a window elsewhere also helped (for me it was an EVE Online client)
Another warning, starting a new game from within a game (as in not from main menu) seems to result in the game hanging, it's as if it's restarting it's 3d engine which triggers the problem above. You would need to quit and start from main menu if it dies.
All credit to everyone involved.
