The freeware version has the following limitations
* no commercial use allowed
* lacks all features introduced in IDA Pro >5.0 (5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, 6.0)
* lacks support for many processors, file format, debugging etc..
Installation works, disassembling 32-bit PE, ELF works. Most of the standard menus and GUI interaction works.

Use winetricks work around the font display problem:
If you get a message box on startup, stating:
ÂÂ"Keyboard layout error: Failed to get the scan code of '~' (VkKeyScaÂn failure)"
Either check the box "don't display that message again" or go to the following directory:
Then open the file "idagui.cfg" with a text editor, and locate the line containing the following:
and comment it out:
save and restart.
