Maintainers: About Maintainership
What works
- Installation of official (US) game client
- Launching the game
- Changing game settings in the options menu
- Registering your UserId and Password
- Character selection (when using a previously created character)
- Ship Selection
- Lobby Selection
- bursting screen
- Lobby movement
What does not
When creating a character you are unable to type a name even though the Esc, Enter/Return, and arrow keys work (these are used for navigating the menus). If you don't already have a character on the server this is as far as you'll be able to go.
If you've previously made a character you can make it to the actual in-game lobby. You can walk around, change lobbies, and symbol chat. You cannot 'normal' chat (by pressing 'Enter/Return' and typing a message) or create a game for the same reason that you can't name your character.
Both of these issues are related to Wine's IMM/IME implementation. Once fixed this game may very well be playable.
Depending on your graphics driver you may receive bug #12964
Workarounds
What was not tested
- Patch server download (dependent on server implementation)
- gameplay in the hubs (e.g. Pioneer 2) quests and combat on the planet

Additional Comments
PROMOTED FROM GARBAGE TO BRONZE When using the open source AMD drivers the only issue preventing me from playing the game are the IMM/IME issues. It should be possible to join a game created by someone that's already on the server (playing via a windows client). Additional Notes: This test was run from a compiled 1.7.13 (32-bit) build directory on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit. The game client was manually patched to 1.24.3 (US). The game client was manually patched to 1.25.10-Teth. The game client connected to Tethealla over the internet using a pre-patched executable with the correct server address. The machine used was a notebook with an AMD APU (E series) using the default open source graphics driver. When I tried to install the amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64 driver the game experiences a page fault when trying to access d3d8 texture data (bug 12964). So far the open source Radeon drivers are the only I can play the game through to the lobby.

Pretty simple:
In the command line, run "winetricks d3dx9_43" and "winetricks dotnet462" without quotes.
Then install ephinea's installer and run it. Everything should work fine execpt the keyboard issue.
