Additional Comments

- Installed with /nogui switch to skip automated DirectX / .NET 4.0 installation (the latter didn't work for me, plus no post-install errors in GOG installer) - winetricks dotnet40 d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9_36 d3dx9_39 - Despite decent hardware (Core i7-6700/32Gb/GeForce GT730 2Gb w/proprietary NVIDIA driver 370.23) the performance is quite poor - had to use the lowest specs with very changes towards medium, plus in nvidia-settings set to use FXAA instead of proper antialiasing and at OpenGL settings moved image quality slider to "Performance" part of the scale. - Performance gets better with Wine CSMT patch enabled (from wine-staging) though still not quite up to speed. - Also performance is improved a bit using NVIDIA driver's Threaded Optimizations: LD_PRELOAD="libpthread.so.0 libGL.so.1" __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 wine bin/witcher2.exe - Tried GLXOSD to show the FPS, didn't work for me (though worked for native Linux version) - Despite all the performance trouble the native Linux version still works slower at a glance. - Had trouble with native d3dx9_36 / builtin d3dx9_39 combination (garbled text in menus and subtitles, without native DLLs didn't start at all - lots of GL_INVALID_OPERATION errors though didn't expected it to work).

Witcher 2 running slow

I installed xact and it made the game a little faster, but the big difference was made in the registry editor, I set "StrictDrawOrdering"="disabled"
