What works

The game works quite well if you perform tweaks described below. Performance is also acceptable. Movies, cutscenes, menus work as well. If you apply the 1.1 patch (in Windows platform) you will not have to use any cracks.

What does not

The installer doesn't work properly and this is probably caused by MS Visual C Runtimes 2010, which is a needed dependency and which cannot be installed in wine neither during Witcher 2 installation nor via winetricks (vcrun2010). Fortunately, there is a method to overcome this issue. One has to perform installation and patching in genuine Windows and after that reinstall the game in Wine to the same folder. After installation you won't be able to run Launcher.exe until you run witcher2.exe executable directly. Afterwards, the Launcher should work quite well. Two more things should be mentioned here. One, you have to disable GLSL extension in wine registry by creating/editing a following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\UseGLSL -> "disabled" (it is case sensitive). This modification makes 3D graphics work. The other problem is the Launcher once again. If you use it, you will have to drag a launcher window to the edge of the screen before clicking. Otherwise none of the launcher's menu options can be highlighted and used. Probably there is a problem with in-game font rendering. Font are rather small and this makes texts difficult to read both in Windows and Linux (I have read that CD Project Red developers are working on this bug and it should be corrected in the near future...) Nevertheless, in Wine fonts seems to be even less readable than in Windows. I have tried to set some font smoothing in the Wine registry but with no success...

Additional Comments

My Sabayon Linux is the 32-bit distro. I am not sure if the game runs or not in 64-bit distros. Running Witcher 2 with WINEDEBUG=-all veriable slightly speeds up the game.
