What works

IMPORTANT NOTICE ON THIS TEST DATA:

The following test data was not compiled by me. This was left in the app description by an anonymous user.  The Wine release used to compile this test data is 0.9.5.

 

• All but six plugins were detected and used on startup. For instructions on how to get all plugins working, please see the note included on this page.
• Playback of music files work. However, be aware that playback will skip if used with other applications.
• Replaygain scanning works properly.
• The default UI and Columns UI works OK. However, if the middle scroll on the mouse is used on Columns UI, the program will crash.
• The installer works properly. For information on how to install the Unicode version of foobar2000, please see the HOWTO included on this page.
• All DSP plugins work fine and shouldn't crash the program.
• Directsound and Directsound 2.0 works, although they do not produce very good results. It's recommended that waveOut is used for listening purposes.
• The simple spectrum visualization works properly.
• The built-in audio encoders work properly.
• Reading RAR, ZIP, and 7z files work properly.
• Changing the title formatting in the preferences menu works properly. Make sure that the proper font is used.

What does not

• The status bar cannot redraw by inself.
• When you go to foobar2000 --> Close, the program will not quit itself. Close the program by clicking on the close window button on the top right.
• Always on Top doesn't work.
• The transparency function in the preferences menu doesn't work at all.
• The default UI and Columns UI have problems with the toolbars. You cannot move them. You can resize them, but the program will not remember the placement and size of the toolbars. It's recommended that for now, lock them into place until this problem is fixed.
• Kernel Streaming does not produce any sound at all.
• The preferences dialog doesn't work properly. It is usable, though.
• There are a few problems when encoding music files using command line programs. It's recommended not to use them for now unless you want to test for errors.

Additional Comments

The installer used was the Specialedition. As mentioned above, this test data was compiled by an anonymous user and not by me. Lastly, the Wine release for this test data is 0.9.5.

On a fresh Wine install, some of the plugins will not work. In order for all plugins to work, you can either install WMP7 manually, or use Winetricksand set it to install IE6 and WMP7. This process will get all the plugins working in foobar2000.
