What works
GUI is OK.
The installation was tricky. It did not want the top level setup. But it did run the setup.exe in the hppspro directory - have a look in setup.ini. It becomes immediately apparent, that this contains the real thing.
What does not
Does not find the scanner. Error message: "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.) Note, that my scanner (Scanjet 7400c) works fine under Sane - but I got better scans out of the HP tool.

Obviously the program is totally useless, if it can't talk to the scanner. Maybe there is a trick to present the USB device (i.e. the scanner) to wine - but at least I didn't find it. :-(
