I have some custom settings as to my folder layouts in WINE to allow multiple users access to the same games, but I had to install to a default C:\ directory to get the patch to work. Otherwise you will be stuck in version 1.0. Otherwise you will be stuck in version 1.0. However, copying to the desired directory works fine. Installing, patching, cracking, and playing all require running in Windows 98 compatibility mode. I'm using the OSS driver for audio with driver emulation and emulated hardware acceleration. The window manager is allowed to control the windows. Vertex and pixel shaders are disabled. Overall, there are only minor gripes with installing and running this game.
