Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption

Nice Vampire-RPG, with 3D graphics, multiplayer support and a good story (including timeshifting).

Feel What It Is To Be Immortal.

Before your fall, you led a crusade against evil. Now you've become one of the undead creatures you once battled-a Vampire. Inhabiting the World of Darkness, you must face a series of brutal confrontations with your nemesis, Vukodlak, a powerful vampire lord. Your unholy showdown begins in medieval Europe and rages on into the modern day, as you track a soulless enemy in an eternal struggle to destroy him. For this is the only hope of vengeance for your tortured immortality.

What works

Pretty much everything I've tried so far:

  • installation
  • playing the game in fullscreen mode, all details set to the highest
  • intro, cutscenes
  • sound, music, voices
  • loading/saving
  • changing various in-game options
  • rendering, visuals are ok

What does not

running the game in virtual desktop mode (no keyboard & mouse input at all)

the game always crashed on exit with wine's default Direct3D settings, namely:

DirectDrawRenderer=gdi
OffscreenRenderingMethod=fbo.

I had to switch these values to "opengl" and "backbuffer" in the registry to avoid crashes

Additional Comments

Running in fullscreen mode: you need to alt-tab out of the game then back into it to get mouse control. Do this either during the intro sequences, or in the main menu. I'd rate it to Gold after adjusting the aforementioned registry entries in wine: not a single crash after 2-3 hours of gameplay. Tested in a clean wineprefix, using an Nvidia card, driver 190.53. No dll overrides were needed.
