What works

  • prerequisites:
    • latest winetricks (incl. bugfixes for .net20sp2)

      winetricks dotnet20sp2 gdiplus ie7

ie7 may also be replaced with firefox - needs to be tested
    • After the USB-installer finishes, exit the program and copy the folder "Citavi 3" to your linux home-folder (e.g. .wine/drive_c/Program files)
  • Start wine with Citavi's path, e.g.

    wine 'C:\Program files\Citavi 3\bin\Citavi.exe'
  • most of the functions run ootb, even auto-detection of subscribed databases & searching trough them

What does not

  • Installer.exe & .msi both crash > workaround: use Citavi's function to install it onto a USB flash drive under Windows (e.g. in VirtualMachine). You may choose any folder on your machine (eg subfolder of C:\ - mustn't be real flash drive)=> see "What works"
  • The Pickers (Firefox / Adobe Reader / Word ) - this are known missing functions of the USB-Version - check FAQ
  • Overview tab, Quotations tab can be added trough right click-menu and can be set to show up in preview pane (right one)
  • Citavi crashes frequently if you open the calender under Tasks pane

What was not tested

Citavi switched in Version 3 from MS Access to  SQLite¹
I therefore guess (but I'm not sure) that the following components aren't needed any more - I first tried only the above (> what works) and couldn't see a change of the program's behaviour after I installed one by one of these
winetricks vcrun2005 corefonts mdac28 riched20

Hardware tested
