What works
ÂThe installer installs the software fine.Â
Â
Note:
Cogmed QM needs .NET. It includes version 2.0 on the disc in the /Prereq directory. It also needs Managed DirectX. Microsoft's original Managed DirectX library doesn't work on Mono. Mono doesn't provide its own implementation of Managed DirectX either.
So I installed Cogmed QM using the following four commands.
winetricks dotnet20
winetricks mdac28
winetricks jet40
wine /Volumes/CogmedQM/Setup.exe
What does not
Â
The software doesn't start.
I run it using:
Â
(cd "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Cogmed/Cogmed QM/" ; wine ./SyncApp.exe)
I see:
fixme:sync:CreateMemoryResourceNotification (0) stub
err:ole:CoGetContextToken apartment not initialised

fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33d740,0x00000000), stub!
Then nothing happens. Even if I wait five minutes, no windows appear in X11.
When I press Ctrl+C twice, I get the following.
fixme:console:CONSOLE_DefaultHandler Terminating process 8 on event 0
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x42e7a584 "x11drv_main.c: X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 0025, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)

After a few minutes, Wine exits.

Additional Comments
* The disc label says it's version 1.0, but /History.txt in the disc's root directory shows me that I have version 1.3.7.2. * Hmmmm... I wonder why Wine told me "err:ole:CoGetContextToken apartment not initialised". * The bottom of http://www.cogmed.com/system-requirements talks about how to run Cogmed software on non-Windows platforms. But it doesn't talk about Wine or CrossOver. Note that Cogmed Training Web, mentioned on that page, is not Cogmed proper: it's only a Cogmed results monitoring system.
