The WordPerfect "for NT" component of the CorelWordPerfect Office 7 suite for NT 3.51/NT 4/95.

Note that the original "for 95" retail releases of WordPerfect 7 and WordPerfect 7 Office contain an older revision that ONLY installs and runs properly under Windows 95. These older revisions will not run properly at all under Wine, Windows XP or anything else and updates were never available for it.

This AppDB entry is for test results and guidance notes for the WordPerfect application. There is a separate AppDB entry for the WordPerfect Office 7 suite.

It is recommended you read and follow the guidance notes of this entry and those to be found under the WordPerfect Office 7 suite AppDB entry. Except where indicated otherwise, all guidance notes are valid for Wine 1.0.0 and later.

What works

There are two issues with Wine that must be worked around:

First, There is a bug in wine that prevents setup from creating directories. To work around this, run setup until it starts trying to copy files and gives you the error "Location: Not found". Then open your wine user temp folder and open the RSP file it leaves behind (for me it was "COI7.rsp"). This contains a long list of all directory locations it wants to exist. Manually ensure all of these folders exist. I copied these directory names in to a batch file to automatically MKDIR all of the folders, and ran it.
Run setup again - now it should install!

Second, the "enhanced" save dialogue does not function properly in Wine (file names do not display, it will not open a file you type in, and occasionally crashes). To work around this, set the windows version to "NT 3.5" for wpwin7.exe in the wine configuration. Alternatively, installing the wps7_03p.exe update from Corel's web site adds an option in the preferences to use the enhanced dialogues or not.

Note that once you set the windows version to NT 3.5, you can not set it back without the WP 7 enhanced dialogue getting even more confused, and must be re-installed.

After that WordPerfect 7 seems to work quite nicely!

With the above workarounds, installation, opening a document, editing, and saving works well. Printing works great!

What does not

With the above workarounds, everything seems to work well.

What was not tested

WordPerfect is a very feature rich product. Did not test every little thing.

Additional Comments

This was tested with WordPerfect AKA the "Windows NT enabled version" bundled with an updated Corel Office 7. The original "for 95" retail release of WordPerfect 7 WILL NOT install or run properly under anything other than Windows 95. Worse yet, the original release can not be upgraded to this version without obtaining a full install CD.
