What does not
The game does not run using Direct3D (see workaround)
Workarounds
Open AoW2Setup.exe and untick "Use Direct3D". The game then seemingly runs OK, even in fullscreen.
Alternatively you can leave Direct3D ticked and select window as the resolution.
