The introduction movies, menu, settings, picking a character, campaign, co-op, interaction with other players as well as everything else.

What does not

Sound and introduction movies if your wineprefix is not 32-bit based.

What was not tested

Additional Comments

Originally, I installed Wine through Software Manager, ran Winetricks, installed Steam through one of the GUI options which created a separate 64-bit prefix inside .local/share/winetricks/steam/ That led to no sound and no intro movies in the game. Installing Steam manually through the official .msi file within the default 64-bit .wine prefix gave the same results. Then I completely removed .wine from the home folder, ran "export WINEARCH=win32", then "winecfg". That way I got a 32-bit based prefix, installed Steam, downloaded Dead Island and installed the libraries from its redist folder. The game launched and worked with no issues at all.

by Dheart on Saturday November 30th 2013, 10:08
I tried everything suggested but I couldn't get sound working.. Then I saw a video on youtube suggesting to install the budled dx and that did it:

cd Steam/SteamApps/common/Dead Island/Redist/DirectX
wine DXSETUP.exe

And now sound is working
Black Screen, No Audio..
by Christopher on Saturday September 28th 2013, 15:04
Dead Island starts up with black screen, and no audio. I attempted to fix it by installing some basic windows DLL files, much like others did to fix it.. However the black screen and no audio issue still plagues me.
I run Linux Mint 13, with an HD Radeon 4550, and my proprietary drivers are installed.
