What works

Everything works, Sound, mulitplayer, full graphics with good FPS. Xbox 360 controller works, but it may take some time to set up the correct button maps, I prefer playing with the keyboard and mouse. Installed in fresh prefix, Steam installed all files/packages needed. I had no issues running this game, Please see extra comments.

Additional Comments

It is very important to note, that if you are using a keyboard and mouse, this game is notorious for Microstutter. A quick google search "Dead Island keyboard microstutter" will yield a bunch of pages of the same issue. If you are able to get your button maps working for your controller, and prefer it then you should not notice any issues, If you prefer KB&M, have a look at page, This is a link to the steam thread with a fix for the issue, as well as some other tweaks you can use if you need performance boosts, ect. This completely solved my microstutter. Highly recommended. This is a link to Steam: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2114535 There is a link to the authors page on the steam forum, However I did not want to link it since i was unsure of what kind of links are allowed. Thank you very much Wine team! You guys make this all possible! My System i5 750 @ 4.0GHz GTX 560 8GB Ram I do play on Max graphics at 1920x1080 performance is now very similar to Windows, Slight dips in heavily populated areas, but nothing really noticeable.

No sound fix
by Dheart on Saturday November 30th 2013, 10:08
I tried everything suggested but I couldn't get sound working.. Then I saw a video on youtube suggesting to install the budled dx and that did it:

cd Steam/SteamApps/common/Dead Island/Redist/DirectX
wine DXSETUP.exe

And now sound is working
Black Screen, No Audio..
by Christopher on Saturday September 28th 2013, 15:04
Dead Island starts up with black screen, and no audio. I attempted to fix it by installing some basic windows DLL files, much like others did to fix it.. However the black screen and no audio issue still plagues me.
I run Linux Mint 13, with an HD Radeon 4550, and my proprietary drivers are installed.
