The missing icons issue must be from Nvidia drivers i did't see them with nvidia_304.88 from ubuntu but with the Short lived nvidia_325.15 missing icons have appered, so this might not be a wine bug.

Yes i'm still playing this game... V 4.13.12 i'm running Ubuntu 14.04 Thrusty Tahr wine 1.6.2 and got the Nvidia driver 331.38, icons are back, game runs ok, right mouse click used to turn around camera is still annoying.
I had somme problems connecting to the server via Launcher i didn't get update while the Atlantica.exe was still connecting to the login and game server, but that was solved after i've installed via winetricks IE8 and vcrun2010 so i recommend you all to install those.

During regression testing I discovered that this isn't a true freeze, and is easy to recover from (press and release alt on the keyboard), but it just happens again the next time you try to rotate the camera, and renders the game non-playable in versions of Wine higher than 1.5.17. For now, if you want to play Atlantica, you'll need to use wine 1.5.17 or lower.
As noted above, I am now in the (long) process of running a regression test on this, and will file a bug report as soon as I've finished.

And yes, I knew (and said, iirc) that the icon issue wasn't likely a wine issue, since it also happens in VMWare/VirtualBox.

$ GC_DONT_GC="1" wine ~/Downloads/ATDownloaderV32108.exe
And the downloader will work. I'll see if I can't make a PlayOnLinux installer for it, though, since that looks like it'll be much easier for you. :-)

A fully patched client being run directly from the executable (not the patcher but the game one) tries to login but cannot reach the server.
My best bet would be to monitor the traffic on windows with wireshark writing down the ip it tries to connect, then on linux using the same method find the address, if they are the same nothing can be done (i have nothing coming into my mind for this, if someone can help me with some input it would be welcome), if not using iptables with a postrouting rule would (with some luck) make it work redirecting the traffic from the bad IP to the right one.
I remember Ragnarok online suffering this problem when the main executable was patched to disable nProtect, years ago i posted the rule to apply in one of my reports for that game, if the game tries the connection to a domain name, editing /etc/hosts might be enough.
in case you have the time and the knowledge to try the iptable rule is:
iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -d FAKE_IP_ADDRESS -j DNAT --to REAL_IP_ADDRESS
wireshark can be found packaged in almost all the distributions, to install it simply use:
Debian based (.deb packages):
apt-get install wireshark
Red Hat Based (.rpm packages):
yum install wireshark
Gentoo and the likes:
emerge wireshark
If someone tries what said above, please reply and report the results, this will save time to figure what's wrong with Atlantica and might help other users to find out a way to make it work again

~/Downloads/Games/AtlanticaOnline $ ls -sh
total 3.4M
1.7M AtlanticaDownloaderLiteV21410.exe
1.7M AtlanticaDownloaderVer21505.exe
Despite both being identical size (1749176) they have different md5sum.
If i try running one of the 1.7 meg files i get:
$ wine AtlanticaDownloaderVer21505.exe
err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 1024 bytes in thread 0024 eip 7ef732c2 esp 00c50f30 stack 0xc50000-0xc51000-0xe50000
What's supposed to happen?

I've never played or installed Atlantica before.
On the download they say ~600M and ~2G, is it supposed to be a 1.7M installer that then downloads the other files?
Is it likely to install with a wine downgrade?
by Thomas Kowaliczek on Friday March 26th 2010, 5:03
by Rodney Moss on Friday March 26th 2010, 8:53
with wine 1.1.17, with a completely new .wine directory
$ wine AtlanticaDownloaderVer21505.exe
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x73db30
So is it changes to the installer, rather than a regression in wine?
Anywhere to get hold of an older installer maybe?
by Thomas Kowaliczek on Friday March 26th 2010, 12:11
Here i found an Full Client Download but it´s old. I think after installing that the updater will load many patches but maybe it works for you: www.gamershell.com/download_29030.shtml
I´m using the German Atlantica Client with an Full Installer not with an Downloader.

www.gamershell.com/download_50374.shtml
it installed fine.
it runs to logon screen and shows the demo battle just fine.
when i log in tells me it's too old a version.
when i run the patcher it tells me it's too old a version to patch and to go get a newer one from the website, which would mean the 1.7 meg thing that doesn't work.
So if you're trying to dl the full game from gamershell, i'd suggest trying the newest. (currently www.gamershell.com/download_55198.shtml)
I will try when i next get a chance to dl 2gig

Patch file ver. 21007 to 21305
The patch executable tells me i don't have the game installed. which since the game seems to run (if only i could log in), seems odd.
