What works

Installing and playing the game after workarounds.

What does not

Running the game will require workarounds due to Windows Media Player and .NET.

Additionally, the game will occasionally crash after quitting.

Workarounds

Using the how-to as a guide:

• Created a win32-prefix (required due to wmp).
• winetricks
  • dotnet40
  • devenum
  • quartz
  • wmp9 or wmp10
• Additional dll required which is not available via winetricks (at this time):
  • qedit (Important: After copying in the dll, it needs to be registered (wine regsvr32 qedit) after adding the override via winecfg.)

Installation

• Installation can be skipped if one has a previous installation somewhere.  The files can be copied from another prefix for example (under steamapps/common).  Steam itself is not required at runtime.
• Steam should install the game fine, and the .NET/XNA installations can be made to work if they don't work out-of-the-box.  Using winetricks will be more convenient, however.

Additional Comments

Using winetricks is not a requirement, but it is used in this guide, as it makes things more convenient-like (using the -q (--unattended) option will make the installation of 'dotnet', 'xna', and 'wmp' much less of a hassle).

• Create a win32-prefix. (How do I create a 32 bit wineprefix on a 64 bit system?)

• winetricks (What is this "winetricks" thing? Where do I get it?)
