What works

Note: Use WINE's Windows version ME and below, as 2000 and above caused crash and performance drop on some section (see What Does Not Work and Comments).

  • Installation.
  • Add and Subtract section (Math On The Rolling Range).
  • Multiplication section (Mini-Rocket Math).
  • Time section (Time After Time).
  • Spelling section (Doodle Challenge).
  • Fraction section (Fractions Arcade).
  • Create the Story section (Andy's Scrapbook).
  • Music section (Sonic Arranger MK. II).
  • World Geography section (Earth Builder).
  • Workbook section (Andy's Book of Brain Teasers): Displayable, but print button didn't show up.
  • Help File: Partially functional with WINE's WinHelp.
    • Menu's font was oddly large and help was displayed with monospaced text.
    • Some additional information that usually displayed in dialog didn't show up.
    • With native WinHelp[*], fully functional, but menu font is still oddly large.
  • Credits Screen.
  • Launcher: Usable, but window didn't repaint properly.
  • Disney Demos: OK, but there was no fade-in effect before the demo played.
  • Uninstallation.
Switching in/out of the game using Alt+Tab also worked.

[*]If one wants the Help File to be fully functional, install native WinHelp by copying winhlp32.exe from Windows's C:\WINDOWS folder to .wine/drive_c/windows/system32/ and add DLL override via winecfg as "winhlp32.exe (native)".

What does not

  • Printing on Workbook section: print button didn't show up at all, rendered this section useless.
This section also crashed with WINE's Windows version 2000, XP and above.
  • Screen repainting on Launcher screen.
  • Fading-in effect of Disney's Demo screen.
  • Some additional information dialog in Help File (like DXDIAG Help or Display Properties Instruction) when using WINE's WinHelp.

Additional Comments

The game bundled with QuickTime 4.1.2 (4.1.1.28), which installed fine, and successfully played the sample movie. Tested with WINE's Windows version 98/ME/2000/XP. Native winhlp32.exe tested was picked from Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3. Tested using Radeon HD 4670 graphics with fglrx driver, Intel HDA/Realtek ALC880 audio with ALSA driver, using winealsa.drv as WINE's audio output. WINE installed without GStreamer, XInput2, OSS, and OpenCL support. Andy's keyboard in the Music section responded very slow (~0.7 sec delay) under WINE's Windows version 2000 and above. This game seems to made with Macromedia Director, as the game's executable metadata stated that it was Macromedia Director Player 7.0.2.85, and there was a "Made with Macromedia" logo on game's credit screen. Improvements from WINE 1.3.27 I've seen are that font on World Geography section was now displayed correctly and uninstallation worked.
