Additional Comments

This was tested for English release of the game. Winetricks changes: ---- - install "directmusic" - set "mwo=force" under settings Changing game resolution: ---- This cannot be done in-game, as the program will freeze without allowing the user to kill the task. However, the resolution can be changed in the "GOTHIC.INI" file found in "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Piranha-Bytes/Gothic/system". Use the following settings for 1280x1024x32 resolution: - zVidResFullscreenX=1280 - zVidResFullscreenY=1024 - zVidResFullscreenBPP=32 Save the file and the next time the game starts you will have the desired resolution. MAKE SURE THAT THE RESOLUTION YOU CHOOSE IS ONE OF THE PREVIOUSLY ALLOWED RESOLUTIONS. Restarting the Game: ---- When the game exits, it does not properly exit the game launcher (it exits the launcher, but leaves the service running). To fix this, I had to open "System Monitor" and kill "GothicStarter.exe". Then the game can be re-opened normally. Summary: ---- This game handles fairly well under the Wine system. However, the presence of the title bar on screen at all times, the difficulty presented for changing the resolution, and the necessity of using a task manager to properly kill the game processes makes this game only get a silver rating. Otherwise, considering Microsoft's complete inability to play this game on their modern OSes, this is an excellent game handled nearly flawlessly by Wine.
