- Installing, from .iso or real CDs. - Skipping videos needs patch from wine-staging. - Playing the game without crashes still requires native directmusic from winetricks.
What does not
- Without using `winetricks directmusic`, the game crashes frequently during gameplay. - Without using `winetricks directmusic`, the main menu music does not play. - Without using the dinput-Events patch from wine-staging, intro logos and videos are not skippable. - When the resolution used is less than the screen resolution, the game's window has an annoying partially visible title bar despite being fullscreen. - The thin bowstrings of Diego's bow / the hunters' bows in front of the old camp / other people are sometimes drawn as huge triangles, depending on perspective. Not very important though.
What was not tested
- Gameplay beyond the first 5 minutes. - Mods.
Wine's DirectMusic support is much better than in older Wine, but it causes crashes after between a few seconds and a few minutes of gameplay. The game works fine with MS DirectMusic. Installing the unofficial game update g1classic-systempack-1.1.exe does not fix the title bar issue as it does on MS Win10. (Installing means extracting the dlls from the exe with file-roller or 7zip; the "proper" installation of the systempack does not work on Windows either.) Neither does it fix the menu music or crashes. It can still be used for changing the resolution in-game, although this does not retain the fullscreen mode and focus of the window. The systempack also breaks climbing for me on only one of the two computers I tested, which may or may not be a problem with Wine.
