Additional Comments

Used a brand new wine prefix, just ran wine OriginSetup.exe Followed setup, installed the game from Origin. On my first try, the game finished installing, but Origin did not reflect this. I killed the process EAProxyInstall, and Origin showed the game to ready to play. This is an ORIGIN bug, and not ME3, so it's still a platinum.

try to start origins in terminal instead of wine, I have connections issues with origins if I start it from wine directly. Multiplayer works fine for me, unfortunately tho I don't much like the multiplayer part but it could grow on me I guess.

Multiplayer doesn't work. It lets me search for a game but always says that my connection to the game was lost and kicks me back out to the multiplayer menu.

Have you started the demo from Origin or from the exe? And if you have started it via Origin, were you online or offline? Because the demo seems able to connect to the EA network only if you are online and connected in Origin. The time I stated it while offline it was unable to make the connection. Maybe this is the problem.

I launched origin in wine, then me3 from origin. I was able to connect to origin and EA's servers, but I couldn't connect to a game server.
Origin "You must be logged in as an administrator to continue" error

I didn't a get a weird error before the download started but after the download finished clicking the Ready to install button froze. I forced close it and changed to windows 7 but now clicking on the Ready to install button gives me a "You must be logged in as an administrator to continue".

I managed to fix this by updating my wine install to 1.4rc3, but now I have a new problem.

The game launches successfully but it gets stuck on the ESBR content rating screen. Am I missing some dependencies?

By the way, did anyone get this to work with the latest fglrx drivers?

Origin should manage all the dependencies for you just like Steam does it for every game. You will find all of them in /Origin Games/Mass Effect 3 Demo/__Installer folder. I'm using nVidia graphics card 9600 GT so I don't know how it's going for AMD.

I've also expierienced problem with installation of the ME3 Demo through Origin, but didn't changed the Wine Windows version to 7. I always run it with default Windows XP mode. In the test results of the newest Origin there is this command:

ps aux | grep EAProxyInstaller.exe

it's supposed to be run when the installation hangs (status doesn't change from "installing" to "ready to play") to check that this program runs. Then you kill the "Origin.exe" (this should take down all Wine processes). Next step is to start Origin and the game should have "ready to play" status.

I used 1.3.33 and Mass Effect 3 Demo would complain that Origin is not running which is where I just quit. Do I need 1.4 to run Mass Effect 3?
RE: Origin

I don't have that particular version of Wine to test, but I can tell that ME 3 will work on wine-1.3.37 and 1.4-rc4. I have tested those versions and also 1.3.17 which doesn't get along with the Demo, but Origin client works with it.

Generally you should be using the latest development version of Wine unless the program you are trying to run doesn't work with that. You can have multiple installations of Wine on your system: jeffhoogland.blogspot.com/2009/12/howto-install-multiple-wine-versions-on.html

I tend to backport wine versions and keep old custom deb packages if I need to revert back. I'm wondering if you came across the error on Mass Effect 3 complaining that Origin is not running and will have to exit. I have a feeling that updating to 1.3.37 or 1.4 may not help, but I could very well be wrong.

My additional install findings from the time I treed it:
The installation hanging I believe has more to do with the Physx install failing (or at least I think it is). If you kill the running install process, Origin will say the install is complete and be done with it. But doing that never got me anywhere. I installed the game from Virtualbox and copied over my install.

Try changing back to windows xp mode and running the game, I had issues with it stalling on ESRB for a bit, it would then continue after a few mins but without internet connection, it didn't do it all the time though but seems to perform better now in win Xp mode.
