Game installs (be patient when it says it is installing the final file, Mine.x, though), and I can use the "Play" and "Exit" options on the main menu.

When I hit "play" on the main menu, a "ghostly" view of the splash screen appears - it is black and white, the background is invisible (all I can see is the text which is supposed to be on the "new game", etc. buttons), the mouse doesn't work, but at least I can exit with Alt-F4.
