What works

Everything seems to work. Game play is smooth, audio is clear, controls work well, etc.

What does not

Like other reviewers, the game starts with a black screen. Hitting "enter" twice is required to start the game. This is the only glitch I've seen so far.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Still playing the game.

Additional Comments

Used winetricks to install a fresh copy of Steam with WINEARCH=win32, no additional winetricks used. Used the Windows 7 windows version. For the latest versions of Wine (1.5 branch), the DirectX winetricks packages ("d3dx9" and "directx9") should NOT be used. "d3dx9" will cause the video to lag, and "directx9" will cause GTA 3 to fail to load with a DirectX version error.

2014-11-08 Admin note: the following was extracted from a user comment made on 2013-11-01 and may or may not be relevant to current Wine:

Apparently if you install "dinput" and/or "dinput8" (fairly certain it's dinput8 though), that will fix the issue where you get "ghost" input that makes you constantly turn and run forward (at least that's what it was for me).
