What works
This is a special note for users with more than 32 threads and running 32bit Adobe Photoshop on hardware with much more than 32 cores.
AMD Threadripper, AMD Epyc Photoshop can exceed the maximum logical cores, hence the workaround below.
Full explanation here: https://sick.codes/amd-epyc-th...
Installation requires the minimum following libraries:
winetricks atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2005 vcrun2005sp1 vcrun2008 ie6 fontsmooth=rgb gecko
What does not
Multiprocessor when using CPU hardware with more than 32 threads.
Users with more than 32 logical cores may be required to delete plugins MultiProcessor Support.8BX from within your Program Files
folder.
My CPU has 128 logical cores (threads) so Photoshop CS6 crashes as soon as any multiprocess task is done inside Photoshop with the error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0065006C at address 0999226D (thread 0114), starting debugger...
Workarounds
The fix, as above, is to remove MultiProcessor capability.
# go to your wine prefixes and remove the files named MultiProcessor Support.8BX
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe
find | grep -i MultiProcessor
Here were my MultiProcessor plugins:
./Adobe Photoshop CS6/Required/Plug-Ins/Extensions/MultiProcessor Support.8BX.bak
./Adobe Bridge CS6/Plug-Ins/MultiProcessor Support.8BX.bak
./Adobe Bridge CS6/apd/plugins/MultiProcessor Support.8BX.bak
What was not tested
Nothing. I've used it for 10 years.
Hardware tested
Graphics:
Additional Comments
I have used Photoshop on Linux for 10 years.
This fix took me a week to figure out.

PS CS6 did install, but I had no 3D Acceleration and it was a buggy experience
I have tried different versions, distros and DE's but the issues persist
sudonull.com/post/6539-Turn-on-GPU-acceleration-in-Photoshop-for-Wine
However, I recently found this article and I think it might be worth adding to the winehq page, I will be trying this shortly and post my results in a reply

(Splash screen shows transparent overlay instead of black border, "Save to Web" dialog does not flicker when tooltips display, etc.)

In the X11 Driver section.
Setting these may have undesirable effects for other applications in that prefix, so I suggest keeping this application in a prefix all to itself, with these flags set.
Tested on WINE 3.0 (Xubuntu 18.04) with 64bit prefix and suggested winetricks, using intel integrated graphics.

I'm beginning to wonder if it works better on AMDGPU, Intel Open Graphics and other Open Drivers.

Nvidia just struggles and locks up more on Arch wine staging using the blob. I never expected usability and stability to improve but it has on open Intel drivers.

Also, you mentioned that the 'guides are weird'. If there isn't a bug filed for that it might be worth to add it.

I had problems with installation since it always failed. I was experiencing similar problems after installation.
This winetricks line helped to install & to launch:
$ winetricks -q atmlib gdiplus msxml3 msxml6 vcrun2005 vcrun2005sp1 vcrun2008 ie6 fontsmooth-rgb gecko
After that I was able to launch successfully only 32-bit version.
PS works quite good, but drawing tools are still not working properly. And that's sad. Also, after first start PS noticed me that something is wrong with graphics acceleration (I have Intel HD 4400). But other things seems to be working and it is stable.
Richard.

I too have experienced issues where some tools will not properly draw when holding the mouse down. Sometimes I can draw squiggles, sometimes it's just a dot.
Thankfully I found a workaround to this issue in tool options.
Simply turn off 'Spacing' for each drawing tool (Brush, Eraser, Pencil, etc). After that, dots should be no more.
This solution may work on older Photoshops.
by Erikas Rudinskas on Thursday December 24th 2015, 2:49
Quick fix for those dots & lines is to use older wine version, which is originally used in POL: 1.7.46-stagging
