First check your wine version using the following command in a terminal.
wine --version
If the output of the terminal was wine-1.4 or upper proceed to next steps, if not, upgrade to
latest wine version.
export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-wcstdd
wget www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
./winetricks dotnet20
gdiplus
wine darkest-dawn-setup.exe
This will setup the application with a working launcher.
After the setup is completed you can run the game using the desktop icon.
If you prefer the command line you must cd into the game directory.
cd ~/.wine-wcstdd/drive_c/Program\ Files/Wing\ Commander\ Saga
And then launch the game:
env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-wcstdd wine Wing\ Commander\ Saga.exe
In case that the launcher doesn't work launch it this way:
env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-wcstdd wine wcsaga_sse2.exe
Now you are ready to toast some furballs!
Ensure that your system have installed the OpenGL 32bit compatibility drivers, or else WCS:DD will not start or work correcty. If you don't know if your system has the 32bit compatibility drivers, ask in your distribution forum or live support chat. (Questions about how this is done will be not answered here, due to the wide range of distributions existing).
