Just saying, because it can be useful to someone...

the easiest and best solution is to just manually edit the rebellion.user.setting file and see what it does then.
PS: I know this response came very very late, I've only recently begun to start actively participating in this community. expect future problems to be answered within 24 hours.

But it doesn't work with wine causing some kind of error.
pastebin.mozilla.org/1823494
Anyone got it working?
by Tom Hackers on Saturday September 15th 2012, 8:50
or
winetricks dotnet35
Might do the trick, got it working, will try to create a map now.
I will reply again, if it won't work currently.

Just play it in a virtual desktop to get the resolution you want :)

Now the game runs, and I can navigate all the menus and so on, but I can't actually start a game up. I get to the loading screen after choosing AI, my race/allegiance, setting up all the options, etc and it crashes after a few seconds of trying to load. I'm not sure what's happening here yet, but I made a mess out of the wineprefix trying to get the registration working, so I'll probably nuke it and give it another go. If you're getting beyond that point, it seems like I should be able to as well :)

As for the game itself, must be a d3d dll somewhere, in my steam prefix I must have virtually everything installed by every game ive ever played in it. I'm busy at the mo, but if you run the game with;
# WINEDEBUG="+loaddll" wine
Then it might come up looking for a d3dx9_42.dll or something.

So the only thing interesting I have to do is Emulate a Virtual Desktop at my full resolution, and "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows, so I can use resolutions than 1280x800 or whatever it is that it defaults to.
The game seems to run great so far :)

Did you catch what was required when you got yours working? If so I'll put up a note for other people :)

I have tried to debug this, but had no chance. After this, I installed all missing optional dependencies for wine, and voila, it works!
The Dependencies were:
lib32-giflib lib32-libldap lib32-gnutls lib32-lcms openal lib32-openal lib32-libpulse lib32-alsa-plugins lib32-libxcomposite lib32-libxinerama lib32-libcl cups
I guess the important library was lib32-gnutls
Maybe it helps someone.
P.S.: Sorry for my bad English...
