Sins of a Solar Empire

This is the 3rd expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire. This is the first standalone one so you can enjoy the series without owning the original.
The time of Diplomacy is over. The length of the war and differing opinions on what should be done to bring the war to an end has led to a splintering of the groups involved. The controlling powers-that-be have depleted arsenals and seemed to have exhausted all efforts of diplomacy. Trapped in a stalemate, sub-factions have rebelled and broken off the main alignments. Rebellion is upon us.

Resolution problems
by Tomsik68 on Sunday February 17th 2013, 5:24
I've had some problems with graphics. The game set my resolution to 1024x768 while my monitor is 1280x1024. I've fixed this by enabling "Emulate Desktop" in winecfg and set the resolution to 1280x1024. The game doesn't show available resolutions in options anymore and runs only windowed, however it's fine and takes 95% of the screen ;)
Just saying, because it can be useful to someone...

as far as I’ve seen resolution and other setting problems seems to be caused by the game itself on windows it has the same problems.

the easiest and best solution is to just manually edit the rebellion.user.setting file and see what it does then.

PS: I know this response came very very late, I've only recently begun to start actively participating in this community. expect future problems to be answered within 24 hours.
UI not showing
by Quenton Farnes on Monday February 4th 2013, 17:57
I try to boot up the game, game boots up however it doesn't display anything on the screen. I hear sound the cursor shows and I'm able to find some buttons because they click when the cursor is over them. however the screen is completely black.
Galaxy Forge

Galaxy Forge is map editor, as far as I understand.
But it doesn't work with wine causing some kind of error.

Anyone got it working?

winetricks dotnet30

winetricks dotnet35
Might do the trick, got it working, will try to create a map now.
I will reply again, if it won't work currently.
Steam?

Anyone tried this with steam? Is it possible to register and get the game playing with it?

by Maquis196 on Sunday July 15th 2012, 2:49
Sure is, out of all the stardock games; this one comes with the best registering screen that simply works. (in fact you can take the program and overwrite the other games version to make life easier there).

Just play it in a virtual desktop to get the resolution you want :)

Sweet, thanks
libssl needed
by Jason on Monday April 9th 2012, 7:40
I actually watched the debug logs and saw that it was complaining it could not find the 32-bit libssl library (I'm using Fedora 16 x86_64) when I clicked the register button. Once I installed the libssl.i686 package the registration completed successfully.

Now the game runs, and I can navigate all the menus and so on, but I can't actually start a game up. I get to the loading screen after choosing AI, my race/allegiance, setting up all the options, etc and it crashes after a few seconds of trying to load. I'm not sure what's happening here yet, but I made a mess out of the wineprefix trying to get the registration working, so I'll probably nuke it and give it another go. If you're getting beyond that point, it seems like I should be able to as well :)

Strange, Sins trinity wouldnt register for me and nothing package wise changed :S.

As for the game itself, must be a d3d dll somewhere, in my steam prefix I must have virtually everything installed by every game ive ever played in it. I'm busy at the mo, but if you run the game with;

# WINEDEBUG="+loaddll" wine

Then it might come up looking for a d3dx9_42.dll or something.

I actually ended up using the Dev.exe for Rebellion and got my answer. In my efforts to get the Activation working I managed to do something stupid and get the "~/My Games/Ironclad Games" folder owned my root. WINE never showed me anything interesting, but the Dev executable griped. Once I fixed that all magic broke loose.

So the only thing interesting I have to do is Emulate a Virtual Desktop at my full resolution, and "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows, so I can use resolutions than 1280x800 or whatever it is that it defaults to.

The game seems to run great so far :)
Registration
by Jason on Saturday April 7th 2012, 18:58
How were you able to register. I am using 1.5.1 and it is refusing
RE: Registration
by Maquis196 on Sunday April 8th 2012, 2:33
Sometimes having a general steam prefix stop's me knowing things like this, I have no idea what some games have installed on here! I found the original Sins wouldn't register, but then suddenly did happily after Rebellion did.

Did you catch what was required when you got yours working? If so I'll put up a note for other people :)
RE: Registration
by Raziel on Wednesday July 24th 2013, 11:17
I use wine 1.6 on Arch Linux. At beginning, it hadn't work, I got "Datei nicht gefunden" (File not found) at registration process.

I have tried to debug this, but had no chance. After this, I installed all missing optional dependencies for wine, and voila, it works!

The Dependencies were:
lib32-giflib lib32-libldap lib32-gnutls lib32-lcms openal lib32-openal lib32-libpulse lib32-alsa-plugins lib32-libxcomposite lib32-libxinerama lib32-libcl cups

I guess the important library was lib32-gnutls

Maybe it helps someone.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad English...
