HowTo / Notes

HowTo (for wine 1.7.24)

 If you follow the bugtracker you'll see there are ongoing efforts making GFWL working with wine. Codemasters announced to remove GFWL from Dirt3 in future. Nevertheless it is possible to run Dirt3 flawlessly with good performance. Gamepads won't be recognized, tough.

  • A manually patched version of wine is mandatory (Bug 33034 ) or the game will show the "Checking Content..." screen forever.
  • PlayOnLinux provides sources of xlive.dll. You have to patch wine yourself or make use of third party providers...

    • Use native d3d9_36.dll
    • Disable d3d11.dll (Bug 34008).

     If you are going not to use Rapture3D you have to set openal32.dll builtin to avoid random crashes at start. Everyone else wants native openal32.dll.

    If you experience crashes during "Dirt Tour" with the error:

    fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_ActivateKeyboardLayout

    Remap all keys ingame even if you don't actually change them.

    Change language by setting LOCALE registry key.

    1031 equals german. See here.

     [Software\\Codemasters\\DiRT3] 1407192530
    "LOCALE"="1031"
    "PATH_APPLICATION"="C:\\Program Files\\Codemasters\\Dirt3\\"

     For windowed mode you have to edit your configuration files manually:

    My Documents\My Games\DiRT3\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings.config
