Nightingale is a community based fork of the Songbird Media player distributed under the GNU GPL and portions (XULRunner and Mozilla libs) licensed under the Mozilla MPL/BSD license. The goal of Nightingale is to create a Media Player, which will eventually use only system libraries to conserve space. Currently, some libraries are still bundled, but progress is being made to change this fact. This git tree is based on the Songbird 1.11 tree, rebranded and enhanced for Nightingale. It's a reflection of what our Xul 6+ releases will be like.
I installed all recommended add-ons.
What does not
After the first installation, it crashed when trying to start itself. I had "Run Nightingale" checked. I re-installed. During the re-installation the previous one was said to be removed. The new installation did not fail on auto-start.
For some reason, it did not detect the library (/home/user/Music) on the second installation. This is why it did not fail. When I forced Nightingale to scan that directory - by unchecking and checking watch directory - Nightingale crashed.
This disfunction is repeatable.
What was not tested
Everything that required Music. I had not tested the browser either.
If it won't scan a directory well, then it isn't functional. This may be completely attributable to Nightingale and have nothing to do with Wine. I tested this just to see whether I was just having this trouble on Fedora for Bug 31413. I used Debian Wheezy's system-wine. I'm hoping the 1.11.1 won't have this issue. 1 - https://github.com/nightingale-media-player/nightingale-hacking/issues/65 2 - http://wiki.getnightingale.com/doku.php?id=releases_notes:1.11.0_release_notes 3 - http://forum.getnightingale.com/thread-491.html 4 - http://wiki.getnightingale.com/doku.php?id=releases_notes:1.11.1_release_notes
