Health and intoxication bars are invisible, but mouseover tooltips work on them.
What was not tested
To prevent errors with the GOG installer, run it with the /nogui parameter from the console. I have used winetricks d3dx9_36 d3dx9_43 vcrun2005 to run the game. Sometimes the game would start with severe graphical problems: "puppeteer lines", invisible textures (only teeth, cheeks and eyes visible), etc. Some bug reports suggest setting Direct3D settings, but evidently they are not necessary. The game starts OK the first time, subsequent restarts may cause problems. If you see no flying birds to the left of the game menu, then don't even try to load a game - it will run with glitches. Instead quit and try to start it again. Some people say that running some other direct3d application in the same prefix before witcher helps, but I have found that changing the value of some registry key may also help.

If you are hit by bug #34052 (invisible character models), or flickering, set this key in the registry as a workaround (it happens on closed Nvidia driver, and to some on Mesa / Intel. It didn't happen to me with Mesa / radeonsi):
Another similar issue is bug #46553 when some textures turn black indoors. For now, install d3dx9_35 native override to work around that.
