What works

The gameplay is fully functional, including:

1. Ground and Space battles.

2. Campaign, Galactic Conquest, and Instant Action.

3. XL mode.

4. Playing as heroes.

5. The AI bot matches.

The sound and the music both work perfectly, and the performance is great under open-source ATI/Mesa drivers and the proprietary Nvidia driver.

The ATI/Mesa and Nouveau/Mesa drivers handled the resolution swapping that this game does between menu and game very well, never resulting in loss of focus.

What does not

The main menu does not scale properly with the proprietary Nvidia drivers. The menu could not be navigated unless in a virtual desktop.

While under a virtual desktop, the game occasionally slips up on locking the cursor to the window (this is likely an issue with the game completely lacking windowed support, not WINE itself).

Workarounds

What was not tested

1. Online multiplayer (servers are gone).

2. LAN multiplayer.

3. Intel-based video cards.

Additional Comments

As per previous reports, this game has long loading screens (about a minute of wait time after the loading bar fills) when loading a map. The menus and the game itself load quickly, however. The entirety of the singleplayer worked straight out of the box, with the only tweak being a virtual desktop for proprietary Nvidia drivers. Open source Nvidia drivers (Noveau) wreck the performance a good chunk, bringing maximum settings down to 800x600 PS2-level quality while on the Quadro 410. This is an issue with the driver itself (and not with Wine). The game did not crash once during testing, and gameplay was as stable as the native PS2 and Windows ports. Computers tested on: ----- AMD FX-4130 8GB Team Elite DDR3-1600 Geforce GTX 760 (2GB) PNY CS1311 SSD ----- Intel Pentium G620 4GB Crucial DDR3-1600 ATI Radeon HD 6870 (1GB) / Nvidia Quadro 410 (512 MB) 7200RPM Hitachi HDD (9 years old) ----- Nvidia driver version: 375.20-1 Noveau driver version: 1.0.13-1 ATI driver version: 1:7.7.1-1 Both computers ran Arch Linux x86_64 with XFCE.
