HowTo / Notes

Compile Wine for Tera
(most of extra tricks there has been are not necessary any more, but I haven’t cleaned comments to remove obsolete ones yet)

Couple of items to note:
1. Need 32bit PREFIX, I could not get 64bit PREFIX working even if patches. I used a 32bit virtual machine to build. You could also build in a chroot. Seewiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit for more information. # TODO: need to confirm

2. The default Windows XP profile does not seem to work (at least with wine-staging-1.8.9), after I changed to Win 7 profile, the launcher started to work.

Winetricks installed in my PREFIX:
winhttp

As of 24.01.2015, it seems that wine-staging build is required in order to launch TERA-launcher.exe properly. It can be found at  https://github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging

It will still not work though, you need to remove boost_interprocess stuff (which then will get recreated, so this is required for every launch), by executing rm ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/ApplicationData/boost_interprocess/* or whatever is correct for your env.

 Performance notes

Performance seems to stutter quite a bit due the Flash based HUD, which can be tested by hiding the HUD using ctrl+z (default keybinding).

There is another performance related problem, where most actions lags quite a bit behind due the UI being fairly slow. Hiding the clock and FPS counter makes the UI more responsive, so disabling these two settings is suggested.

 Installing new Flash with winetricks

    sh winetricks flash

seems to help by few FPS points.

Removing mini map (N key by default) also seems to help by few FPS.

More comments on getting tera online running under 6.9 wine
by Wesley on Tuesday May 25th 2021, 14:16
corefonts needs installed! going into system settings while game is running and turning off auto adjustment for video settings helps stop some crashing. The resource called Ribbons is missing, and this locks up the game. Only under certain UI.
In wine development 6.9, lutris can get tera online running.

Lutris can get tera online to work using wine 6.9. But the market tabs will crash tera.
Broken again, after the latest game patch.
by Artemis3 on Thursday June 7th 2018, 22:50
I played yesterday with 3.8 staging, but today it fails to load the game after a successful login with the launcher.
You can click play and after blanking the screen but right before the usual videos would show, it crashes with program exception error. Tried 3.9, same thing.
Tera Launcher Fails
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday November 1st 2016, 4:32
with wine 1.9.22 the launcher fails... A bug report has been filed at:

bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41634

What happens is:

The TERA Launcher is unable to load copycub.dll file.
ErrorMessage: Interop load failed

as well as

The TERA Launcher is unable to load steamsupport.dll file.
ErrorMessage: User cancelled.

I found wine-staging-1.9.18 rpms that I previously installed. I uninstalled the wine-1.9.23 and install wine-stagging 1.9.18 and everything works OK
RE: Tera Launcher Fails
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday November 17th 2016, 3:26
There was no bug. I thought that wine-staging was fully integrated into the development version of wine. I was wrong. When I install wine-staging-1.9.23 everything worked the way I was expecting.

Sorry about the noise
Any recent attempts with 1.9.18-19?
by KAJINOFE on Wednesday September 28th 2016, 13:31
Anyone have any luck with 1.9.18 or 1.9.19 with CSMT enabled? I was able to get it working with 1.9.18 with gallium nine patch, I used the livecd from www.gearsongallium.com/
Fails with 1.9.10 works with 1.9.3 (both staging)
by Artemis3 on Friday May 27th 2016, 10:33
I could still play this game with 1.9.3 (The PPA from Sebastian Lackner only had 1.9.5, 1.9.7 and 1.9.10). Sadly i have no idea how to obtain specific versions as the PPA seems to delete older ones.

And yes this game benefits from CSMT which is why i waited so long to upgrade, only to find now it fails. The launcher works (could take some retries) but once it works and you log in, hitting the "play" button shows a ffff:ffff error launching TERA.exe with 1.9.10 staging, but works with 1.9.3 staging.

Hello,

Have you tried the wine-staging version?
Trouble with launcher
by Scotty on Sunday November 15th 2015, 20:41
I'm having some problems with the launcher. I have installed playonlinux and I think some of my confusion may be that I have bounced between regular wine and playonlinux quite a bit.

I can get to the point where the launcher will come up, but will only last a couple of seconds before it crashes. If I run it from playonlinux the error reads "The Program TERA-Launcher.exe has encountered a serioius problem and needs to close. We are sorryblah blah"

If I open my .wine-tera prefix C drive, and try to right click and run with wine it reads. The TERA Launcher is unable to load the downloader.dll or patcher.dll file. ErrorMessage: Interop load failed. "

I'm very new to linux and wine so please be gentle, but I greatly appreciate your help.
Possible regression?
by Artemis3 on Saturday November 7th 2015, 11:25
I experienced a possible regression with wine-staging 1.7.54, the game will work for around 15 mins and then crash. Downgrading to 1.7.53 fixes the problem.
TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by PB on Thursday September 24th 2015, 18:52
TERA ran just fine up until the patch on September 24th, 2015.

Now, it complains about bcrypt.dll or crashes.

When using wine's built-in bcrypt, it loads, but crashes after a few minutes with the error:

fixme:bcrypt:BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider 0x157ae1dc, L"SHA256", L"Microsoft Primitive Provider", 00000000 - stub
wine: Call from 0x7ec30a59 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash, aborting
wine: Unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash called at address 0x7ec30a59 (thread 00d9), starting debugger...

I have been unable to get native bcrypt.dll working by copying the DLLs from a Win7 install. The launcher errors out saying bcrypt.dll can not be found, reinstall the application. Since there is no redistributable for bcrypt, I'm not sure I've gotten all of its deps right.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Apeiron on Thursday September 24th 2015, 20:40
Same problem here. From the console output it doesn't seem like bcrypt has dependencies that it's failing to load. Windows XP users are having the same "bcrypt.dll is missing. Please reinstall" error. Possibly related?

Seems like the "doesn't work in XP anymore" type TERA bugs affect Wine as well.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by PB on Thursday September 24th 2015, 22:16
Related, loosely.

XP has an old bcrypt implementation that doesn't report as compatible with TERA, thus, the error that it's not there. There isn't a bcrypt.dll redistributable either.

On Wine, using the built-in bcrypt, it crashes whenever bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash is called. Likely because it's not 100% compatible with what TERA is expecting. This happens regardless of what version of Windows wine is reporting to the app. I've been unable to get a native bcrypt.dll to load, because of its major deps on ntdll.dll and kernel32.dll (among others).

Basically, disabling bcrypt in wine returns the same error that XP users see, and using the built in crashes when that function is called. So, unless either En Masse reverts the change to fix XP users, or, somebody with the required skills fixes bcrypt in Wine, or we get native bcrypt working, I think we might be hosed.

by Eli Wapniarski on Friday September 25th 2015, 0:50
wow that was really fast in locating the problem.

I am going to try manually installing the dll from

www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?bcrypt

I will let you know how it goes
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Eli Wapniarski on Friday September 25th 2015, 1:19
nope .. crashed in ghillieglade :(
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by PB on Friday September 25th 2015, 1:25
I was unable to get wine to use a native bcrypt at all. When I overrode bcrypt with native (and various forms of its deps) versions, it refused to acknowledge bcrypt was present at all - TERA refused to load beyond the launcher itself.

The few times I *thought* I had bcrypt going natively, and TERA loaded into the game itself, it actually was using the builtin version (native bcrypt failed to load at all and the builtin fallback was used), and thus, it crashed after rand(5,30) minutes in whatever zone I was in.

So are you absolutely sure you had it working for a limited time with native bcrypt? If so, that's a step in the right direction. I checked the sourcecode of bcrypt_main.c which is used for the native bcrypt.dll Wine compiles, and it's literally nothing but stubs. I have no idea if a stub for BCryptCreateHash will be useful or not, or if TERA expects it to return meaningful results to it.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Eli Wapniarski on Friday September 25th 2015, 3:09
Nope... I didn't get native to work
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Eli Wapniarski on Friday September 25th 2015, 3:25
Never say die...

After downloading the dll from:

www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?bcrypt and placing it in:

.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

I went into regedit and navigated to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\DllOverrides]

I then added a new "String Value" key and called it *bcrypt.dll and gave it the value of native.

The game started to run. I will let you know if it stays stable
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Eli Wapniarski on Friday September 25th 2015, 3:33
correction.. I meant to say that I added the key *bcrypt
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Artemis3 on Friday September 25th 2015, 2:24
I also have the same problem. Can you open a bug about bcrypt? The proper solution could be to have wine's bcrypt implement this function in case they officially dropped XP support.

I also still experience the bug about the spamming of fixme:ntdll:NtSetTimerResolution messages from TERA-Launcher.exe which also causes a cpu core into 100% use) github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging/issues/240 which is why we kept closing TERA-Launcher.exe after a while in game.

It would be interesting to know if any of the other teras have the same problem, ktera anyone? eutera? jtera?

RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by PB on Friday September 25th 2015, 4:25
The patch located at bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=52413 has resolved this for me by stubbing the function that was crashing.

Now when TERA invokes that function, it continues on instead of fatally erroring out.

Hoping this gets merged upstream, at least until the official bcrypt APIs can be implemented.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Artemis3 on Saturday September 26th 2015, 0:57
I applied this patch, but after a bit of playing got a different error which froze the game instead of crashing it, need to try some more. It came a bit after the bcrypt error:

fixme:bcrypt:BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider 0x2884e22c, L"SHA256", L"Microsoft Primitive Provider", 00000000 - stub
wine: Call from 0x7b83cf09 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash, aborting
wine: Unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash called at address 0x7b83cf09 (thread 00a0), starting debugger...

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0xf6142f78 "wined3d_main.c: wined3d_cs" wait timed out in thread 0066, blocked by 0091, retrying (60 sec)

They are hard to catch in the console among the endless:

fixme:ntdll:NtSetTimerResolution (10000,0,0x5f0e5c8), stub!

from TERA-Launcher.exe
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Artemis3 on Saturday September 26th 2015, 1:18
Yes i played again and it froze again:

fixme:bcrypt:BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider 0x2b93e22c, L"SHA256", L"Microsoft Primitive Provider", 00000000 - stub
wine: Call from 0x7b83cf09 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash, aborting
wine: Unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptCreateHash called at address 0x7b83cf09 (thread 0092), starting debugger...
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0xf6128f78 "wined3d_main.c: wined3d_cs" wait timed out in thread 00a3, blocked by 00db, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0xf6128f78 "wined3d_main.c: wined3d_cs" wait timed out in thread 00a3, blocked by 00db, retrying (60 sec)
(these messages would continue forever).

So the patch is not good.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by PB on Saturday September 26th 2015, 3:04
The patch fixed it entirely for me. Game no longer crashed due to bcrypt issues.

It did, however, expose another issue, that would lock up the game.

wine: Call from 0x7ef484a5 to unimplemented function urlmon.dll.414, aborting
wine: Unimplemented function urlmon.dll.414 called at address 0x7ef484a5 (thread 005f), starting debugger...

I patched urlmon.spec to stub 414 (using the same function as 455: FlushUrlmonZonesCache - just so it's defined), and that resolved that issue for me - Tera's been running for hours with no issues since that.
RE: TERA Patch on 9/24/15 broke it...
by Artemis3 on Saturday September 26th 2015, 19:56
Disregard my messages, i made mistakes compiling. Will wait until the patches get into the staging ppa before trying again.

So by now we would need patching 3 patches in wine to run this game properly...

Fps drops when the game is foreground
by plop on Monday July 13th 2015, 5:47
When I focus the game window the frame rate drops to about 7fps but if I open and focus another window I can see the fps go to around 30.

I also noticed that cpu and gpu usage are almost nonexistent when the fps drops. When the window is unfocused both the gpu and the cpu are pretty much maxed out.

The game used to work fine a while ago and I think this started to happen because of some of the latest game updates. Downgrading radeonsi drivers makes no difference.

Is there anyone else having the same issue?
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Monday July 6th 2015, 9:39
Trying to play, took a hiatus, and it will start using the staging wine, but I lose my screen. The cursor changes and once in a while I can enter the game. I can post a screen shot, if necessary.

Once in, game crashes when trying to turn in a quest. I could hunt and kill creatures and pickup items, just could not turn the quest in.

I tried a reinstall using both 64 and 32 bit PREFIXES, with and without wine staging. Both would not get past the opening screen as I would receive an error. I tried all the winetricks I used before, even the new one vcrun2013.
RE: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday July 14th 2015, 13:25
Okay, starting in Window mode the game starts and I can actually see the screen. :) I just tested turning in quests and that did not crash me to desktop. Not sure if it was Tera's patch or the newer Wine staging that solved it.
RE: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
by Artemis3 on Saturday August 22nd 2015, 10:09
I have this problem right now (quest = crash), with staging and window mode.

The fix must be something else, have vcrun2010 will try with 2013.
RE: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
by Artemis3 on Saturday August 22nd 2015, 10:18
That was the fix indeed.

In short you need:

wine-staging for the cert issue (tested with 1.7.49)
vcrun2013 and flash installed with fresh winetricks.
SteamSupport.dll
by Dark_Man on Wednesday July 1st 2015, 19:43
I'm not new to unix. I am however very new to wine and slackware. For the past 10+ years I've only worked on non X win FreeBSD servers.

Slackware 14.1 amd64 (with multilib installed)
Wine 1.7.45
I DLed the full Tera online from the torrent link on their web page.

After I installed it I had to fix the ca-certificate issue which worked.

However the launcher now gives me the unable to load SteamSupport.dll error and nothing I do seems to fix it.

The dll doesn't exist. This is a reasonably fresh install on a new machine. I don't have steam and don't plan on installing it.

I've tried installing vc2010express via winetricks. Nothing changed.

bash-4.2$ ls -Rail | grep boost
bash-4.2$ pwd
/home/$user/.wine/drive_c (I removed my real name...:P)

The "boost_interprocess stuff" doesn't exist anywhere that I can find.

I've read no less than 6-8 solutions to this. None seem to be relevant or work. Anyone have any ideas?

Try to install wine-staging (github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging) and vcrun2013 (appdb.winehq.org/contact.php?iRecipientId=255039). You will still get an error, but game start successfully after several attempts.

P.S. Sorry for my English

Tera now requires VCRUN2013
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday May 5th 2015, 18:19
Hi

After the patch with that brought in the gunner, I found that if I tried to move a skill from one palette to another, the game would crash.

It turns out that VCRUN2013 is needed to run the game. It can be installed via winetricks.

However, there is a problem with the official release and the version that is required to install VCRUN2013 is the "latest unreleased" version

Wintricks can be found:
wiki.winehq.org/winetricks

Please remember... currently... you will need the "unreleased version to install VCRUN2013
RE: Tera now requires VCRUN2013

Yeah, you know you can post links to the correct version. I'm not exactly sure how you expect us to find the right version (hidden on Windows stuff) of something that's supposedly unreleased...
RE: Tera now requires VCRUN2013
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday May 10th 2015, 2:46
You can ask why the unreleased version of winetricks without being snarky.

The reason that I indicated the unreleased version is because the released version of wine has the wrong checksum on the file.

Winetricks manually extracts the files as opposed to using the msi installer because of whatever reason. I have been using winetricks to install required Windows componenets for a long time and I trust it. I tried the official release, it did not work. The unofficial release did. You can use it to install vcrun2013 and then revert back to the official release for any other purpose.

If you find out a better way post the instructions... Otherwise.... do what you want.
RE: Tera now requires VCRUN2013
by kktsuri on Monday May 11th 2015, 12:28
I believe he was simply confused and did not know there even existed an unreleased version of winetricks.

winetricks also manually extracts the installers to work around some wine bugs, for example I tried to install the vcredist_x86.exe by double clicking, and it failed even though installation gave no error.

By the way, BIG thanks for this tip, also happens on EU version and this solves it.
A Friendly Warning
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday April 9th 2015, 3:31
I just noticed that wine-stagging 1.7.40 may cause Tera to Hang when starting the game.

Just a friendly warning....

A bug report has been filed at:

bugs.wine-staging.com/show_bug.cgi?id=209
RE: A Friendly Warning
by Eli Wapniarski on Friday April 10th 2015, 17:04
K... it turns out that UseGLSL needs to be enabled in the registry editor and the problem goes away.

It would seem that peformance now improves with it being Enabled :)
RE: A Friendly Warning
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday April 12th 2015, 9:53
And apparently this problem will be resolved with 1.7.41. :)

by Kopetan4egX on Friday March 20th 2015, 10:17
I accidentally installed the game to the wrong prefix with only d3dx9 and xact installed and it worked with wine 1.7.38-staging and Linux Mint 1.7.1 x86-64. Sometimes (but rare) i get the steamsupport.dll or "unable to download metafile" error but reloading launcher solves them.

If it would work, here are some advices.

Before running the game you need to delete /dev/input/js0 or the game will "find" a gamepad and you mouse cursor will continuously move to top left corner. Later you can disable detecting gamepad in game options.

Also after you click Play there will appear small window with some text about 3GB, better close it fast, or the game may freeze.

Also sometimes laucher wont exit after clicking Exit button, just kill the process. And its process still works after the game is loaded - better kill it to free your CPU power.

I hope reading this didnt cause too much pain for your eyes, English insnt my native language, but I tried to do my best:)
Note to Fedora Users!

If you are using Fedora (or any newer RPM/RHEL based distro) you have to install the ca-certificate VERY differently.

1. su - (or precede all commands with sudo, whichever you prefer)
2. yum install ca-certificates (should already be installed on most distro's)
3. touch /etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors/Thawte_CS_CA_G2.crt
4. gedit /etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors/Thawte_CS_CA_G2.crt (replace gedit with your favorite text editor or nano)
5. Insert the following into the file...

RE: Note to Fedora Users!
by Josh Raymond on Thursday March 5th 2015, 16:55
On a side note: You MUST have the fedora-repo wine installed (other OS's will need wine-staging not your distro's repo wine version.

Fedora 21 repo wine is currently 1.7.36. Upon loading the launcher, if you get the error about not finding the SteamSupport.dll...
1. Go to wineprefix/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data
2. Delete the folder boost_interprocess
3. Ensure the wine installed is from the Fedora standard repo(not a custom-compiled one)
4. Use winetricks to make sure vcrun10 is installed.
5. Re-run the launcher, it should startup with no errors.

Note: The launcher itself is quite laggy as far as updating it's progress bar/% and dragging the window. To ensure the launcher does not freeze during patching, open it in a terminal (wine64 "wineprefix/users/Public/Games/En Masse Entertainment/TERA/TERA-Launcher.exe")

After all patching is done, and the launcher is only being used to login and click play, you may make a shortcut (or launch via terminal) with the above command preceded by env WINEDEBUG=-all to reduce latency and CPU load slightly by not displaying/logging any debug errors.
Note: Doing this may prevent you from properly diagnosing any other issues within the game such as lag, freezes or crashes. If you experiance any of these, remove the WINEDEBUG setting before posting any log files.

I think it can be fixed by changing the version of windows WINE emulates:

terminal > winecfg > applications > windows version > windows 8

works for me at least.

RE: Launcher crashes

RE: Launcher crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Monday January 19th 2015, 8:09
I have no experience with PoL. However, the plain vanilla wine has problems with Tera at the moment.

Your best option would be to install a clean prefix with wine-stagging as your base.

Instructions for using wine stagging can be found at:

github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging/wiki/Installation

We will take this step by step

Please be aware that wine-stagging is testing version of wine and not supported by winehq. If you elect to have wine-stagging installed on your system and you successfully install it then we can move on.

next....

get winetricks from:

wiki.winehq.org/winetricks

once downloaded and permissions to this script is set correctly then open a console and navigate to the where winetricks has been downloaded.

and from the command line enter:

./winetricks baekmuk cambria comctl32 consolas constantia corefonts d3dx10 d3dx9_26 d3dx9_28 d3dx9_31 d3dx9_35 d3dx9_36 d3dx9_39 d3dx9_42 d3dx9_43 d3dx9 directx9 dotnet20 droid eufonts flash ie8 liberation lucida msls31 opensymbol physx pngfilt tahoma takao unifont vcrun2010 wenquanyi winhttp wininet wsh56vb xact_jun2010 xact xinput xmllite

the wineprefix installation aborts, because donet20 doesnt support 64bit, i have to install wine-staging 32bit? and how? or i can install an other donet version? and which?
RE: Launcher crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Monday January 19th 2015, 10:04
My bad sorry. I should have mentioned that you would need to install the 32 version of wine. My apologies :(

First off you will probably need to uninstall the x86_64 binaries

I am running Fedora, so i would simply issue the command

yum install wine*i686 wine*noarch --exclude=*debug*

I do not know if you would need to configure something in apt-get and unfortuneately I would not know how to do that. Perhaps an Ubuntu user would step up please to help get the 32 binaries installed
RE: Launcher crashes
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Monday January 19th 2015, 12:16
All you need to do is create a new PREFIX for 32bit. You do not need to remove anything.

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX={your path} winecfg
RE: Launcher crashes
by tarner on Monday January 19th 2015, 13:17
ok i used this command:

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/win32 ./winetricks baekmuk cambria comctl32 consolas constantia corefonts d3dx10 d3dx9_26 d3dx9_28 d3dx9_31 d3dx9_35 d3dx9_36 d3dx9_39 d3dx9_42 d3dx9_43 d3dx9 directx9 dotnet20 droid eufonts flash ie8 liberation lucida msls31 opensymbol physx pngfilt tahoma takao unifont vcrun2010 wenquanyi winhttp wininet wsh56vb xact_jun2010 xact xinput xmllite

thanks, all installed except unifont, because the download is very slow, infact i used the same line without unifont.

and now?

See the link Eli Wapniarski posted regarding wine-staging installation.
RE: Launcher crashes

open a console and then navigate to the installer

I would assume from the example that the good Dr presented:

WINEPREFIX=~/win32 /opt/wine-compholio/bin/wine TERA-Minimal-Setup.exe.

Let me know how it goes. There a couple of other things you should do to get the most out of the game.

And a bug that you will need to work around

1) Add the certificate as inidcated in the post at the very top of this page.

2) Visit:
www.unixmen.com/install-and-configure-wine-to-play-latest-windows-games-in-linux-ubuntu-linuxmint-fedora/

and modify the registry as indicated. You will be able to edit the registry for your prefix by entering the following line in a console

WINEPREFIX=~/win32 regedit

*******************
one thing to note
*******************
for the key that says “UseGLSL”=”readtex” on the link the value should be "disabled" not readtex.

3) Please be aware there is minor issue with starting the game in wine. No doubt you will come across the steamsupport.dll error.

THE WORK AROUND
---------------
If you delete all the files in a folder called "boost_interprocess" the game will come up without a hitch.

The folder will either be (in your case):

~/win32/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/boost_interprocess
or

~/win32/drive_c/{your_user}/Public/Application Data/boost_interprocess
RE: Launcher crashes
by tarner on Tuesday January 20th 2015, 5:40
i have already added the certificate, some days ago, i have to do an other time?
RE: Launcher crashes
by tarner on Tuesday January 20th 2015, 5:44
your command line to open regedit gives me back an error, so i used this one:

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/win32 /opt/wine-staging/bin/regedit
RE: Launcher crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday January 20th 2015, 5:50
No you should not need to install the certificate again.

And... you should now be able to run the game.

RE: Launcher crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday January 22nd 2015, 4:19
It could be that you are not seeing a message from the application. The first thing to check, after you press on play is to see if a message about a 3Gig memory limit pops up by pressing on [Alt][Tab] and switching between open windows.

You will need to dismiss this box. Then you will need to [alt][tab] to the main game window.

Unfortuneately there seems to be a problem with Wine managing focus of the game properly. It is a very minor issue.

RE: Tera Freezes with 1.7.32 and 1.7.33
by Eli Wapniarski on Monday December 29th 2014, 7:46
The following is a copy paste of the report of my observations that I have filed at:

bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37725

and newly at:

github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging/issues/240

First off I am running:

Fedora 21 x86_64 - I will be cross referencing this with wine-stagging
wine 1.7.33 i686 there are no x86_64 wine libraries
KDE 4.14.3
8GB RAM
I7
NVIDIA 650 GTX w/ 2GB RAM

As you are probably aware, KDE comes with build in desktop effects dependant on opengl (of course). Before running the game, I have been in the habit of disabling the desktop effects by pressing on [CTL][SHFT][F11]. Then I would run the launcher. With wine 1.7.30, everything went well. Fedora skipped over building 1.7.31 so I did not have the opportunity to try it. But with 1.7.32 and 1.7.33 the main game screen would start, but then the game would seem to freeze. I could not switch to anything other than switch to a console and kill the game processes.

I just wanted to test things to see if I could get it to run, and by accident, I discovered a work around.

I can start the game when I have the desktop effects enabled. I can then go to windowed mode by pressing on [ALT][ENT]. I can then switch off the desktop effects and bring the game back to full screen mode. The game then works fine.
SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Sunday December 7th 2014, 11:39
I followed the latest instructions for the certificate error today. I finally got past that. The launcher loaded and patched. When it restarted I received:

The TERA Launcher is unable to load SteamSupport.dll.

ErrorMessage: Interopl load failed.

I tried some suggestions I found on the Tera forum, such as replacing msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll. I tried to reinstall with the latest full download and stream download.

Any suggestions? I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 64bit. The Prefix is 32bit.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday December 9th 2014, 3:50
Yay!!! Somebody besides me is experiencing this... Now we have some fuel.

I have already reported this at:

bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37688

Please add some comment there so maybe we can get some traction.

Second off... I have discovered, that if you are pesistent with trying to get in you will eventually get it.

Third... I have also discovered that you will have a much easier time getting the launcer to load if you have steam for windows installed and running when you try to run the launcher. You can close steam aftwards.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday December 9th 2014, 8:29
I opened my Steam for Windows and tried 15 times to Launch Tera. Same error message. I did not install Tera through Steam so not sure how this helps. I even tried Steam for LINUX. Still could not get past the error.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday December 9th 2014, 8:48
First off try installing vcredist2010 with winetricks.

Second. I am not running the game through steam either. I just installed and ran Steam for windows with wine and the problem is greatly allieviated though not altogether gone. It can also be installed with with winetricks.

I followed the instructions for intallation at:
appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19444

And if you're asking me what deep dark processes lie in the heart of code.... you're asking the wrong dude. I just tried an experiment and it helped. I'm gonna scratch my head 1 time.. Say huh twice, wtf 3 times and keep on playing :)

Best thing I can think of is to confirm the problem at the bug report.

Which Tera installation file did you use: TERA-Minimal-Setup (I downloaded on Dec 7), or one of the older installation files?

I am also assuming a 32bit Prefix?

If you want to take this to a chat rather than here, let me know.

New Prefix, I receive the error after the first Launcher update and continuously receive it. I put all the winetricks in, except flash as it failed to download (website does not exist). I created a copy of my Steam Windows install folder and will try through Steam. Just checking if it works there.

If you were unable to install flash then you probably do not have the latest winetricks. I just downloaded and installed the extras by opening up a console and navigating to where I downloaded the winetricks.

Of course after making the script executable, I ran it from the command line with the following command.

./winetricks baekmuk cambria comctl32 consolas constantia corefonts d3dx10 d3dx9_26 d3dx9_28 d3dx9_31 d3dx9_35 d3dx9_36 d3dx9_39 d3dx9_42 d3dx9_43 d3dx9 directx9 dotnet20 droid eufonts flash ie8 liberation lucida msls31 opensymbol physx pngfilt tahoma takao unifont vcrun2010 wenquanyi winhttp wininet wsh56vb xact_jun2010 xact xinput xmllite

Everything installed without error.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Thursday December 18th 2014, 7:43
I updated winetricks. Weird sudo apt-get would not. Everything installed. However, Tera still gives the SteamInput.dll error after the first patch cycle. I could not get past it with 20 attempts.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday December 18th 2014, 8:00
Well at least that... :)

The only other things that I can think of is either the version of wine you are using and or the registry settings.

As I said previously, i am currently using 1.7.30.

I'm running under Fedora 21 not Ubuntu... and... One other thing I should mention, is that I do not have the 64bit stuff installed at all. I had the opportunity to try 1.7.32 and 1.7.33 both gave me the same results I've been getting with 1.7.30, but I have other issues with the newer versions.

The other thing that might, but I doubt it, be a hinderance to launching the launcher is the registry settings.

so... under
[HKCU]
Software
Wine
Direct3D
“DirectDrawRenderer”=”opengl”
“Nonpower2Mode”=”repack”
“OffscreenRenderingMode”=”fbo”
“RenderTargetLockMode”=”auto”
“UseGLSL”=”disabled”
“VertexShaderMode”=”hardware”
“VideoDescription”=”NVIDIA GeForce 650 GTX” (Change this to your current Graphics card setting)
“VideoDriver”=”nv4_disp.dll”
“VideoMemorySize”=”2048″ (Use your current video memory size)

This is about the best I can do.

Oh... did you try running Tera from a console? Did you get anything significant?
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Wednesday December 17th 2014, 9:24
Trying to keep the tree readable.

I've tried 1.7.32 and it gives other problems. So even if you get past the dll issue, you will probably get a blank screen when running the game. I have already filed a bug report.

If you can get 1.7.30, could try that??
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Wednesday December 17th 2014, 12:09
I have Wine1.7.23 already compiled. I would need to compile 1.7.30. I can do that later, if necessary.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday December 28th 2014, 4:08
It turns out, because I am using wine packaged by Fedora, I am actually using the "Stagging" Version of wine.

And the success that I am experiencing getting into Tera might be attributable to that fact.

If you are not using Fedora and you want to try it then you can find instructions on how to get the stagging versions for the distributions listed at the following URL

www.wine-staging.com/install.html

That being said the bug reports that I have posted have reported at the wrong place, I will have to report them at the wine-stagging site. I will post here when I have done that.

Thanks
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday December 28th 2014, 7:05
I have filed a bug report at wine-stagging:

github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging/issues/238
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Monday December 29th 2014, 7:44
K then... to further this...

I have started with a completely clean prefix built by 1.7.33 and installed the game. I did not add anything with wine tricks. I had to be less persistent then in previous efforts to get past the SteamSupport.dll error.

Again... to note... the version of wine that I'm using is from stagging.
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday January 1st 2015, 3:13
Good news... A work around has been found and a patch is being worked on.

THE WORK AROUND
---------------
If you delete all the files in a folder called "boost_interprocess" the game will come up without a hitch.

The folder will either be:

~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/boost_interprocess
or

~/.wine/drive_c/{your_user}/Public/Application Data/boost_interprocess

The bug that I filed, apparently, is a duplicate of bug 37338. A patch has already been developed. But reading through the threads it would appear that it still needs some work. Nonetheless, I will try to get it compiled in and test.

I will report my findings
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday January 1st 2015, 7:06
K then... I've learned that the patch has already been applied to wine-stagging. It obviously did not fix the problem. So... It would seem the workaround will have to do for the time being.
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Thursday January 1st 2015, 9:52
As I understand the threads, one needs the stagging WINE version and then delete the files in the folder? I have the release version of WINE, no patches, and deleting the files does not work.
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Steffen on Friday January 2nd 2015, 11:36
Same for me, with the normal version it didn't help. But with wine-staging this does work indeed.
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Friday January 2nd 2015, 18:08
Switched to wine-staging and the game works for me as well on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit and 14.04 64bit (two computers).

RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Sunday January 4th 2015, 9:01
Interesting to note, on my Ubuntu 14.04 system I needed to set a virtual desktop for the game to display. I could hear the sounds, however, all that was visible was a small symbol in the corner of the screen. I played with different virtual desktop sizes and found 1024x768 gives me the game visible and full sized window on screen. Native screen is 1680x1050. I will check the other 14.04 system and my wife's 12.04 (need to upgrade) this afternoon, hopefully.
RE: (WORKAROUND) SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday January 4th 2015, 9:40
Take a look at the thread posted above this one.

:/

Dunno how to work around this issue with Ubuntu / Gnome. However.... If you start the game in Window mode it should work just fine without having to resort to a virtual desktop. That being said. If you do not find a work around like I did for KDE, then you will have to remember to go back to window mode before logging off the game.
RE: SteamSupport.dll file error
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday January 11th 2015, 4:22
The steamsupport.dll error seems to be resolved with wine-stagging 1.7.34.

You will probably need to install opencl libraries to get 1.7.34 installed.

On Fedora the package is ocl-icd.i686

yay!!!

Bad Performance
by John on Tuesday November 11th 2014, 22:33
Hello,

I have pretty bad performance with this game for what my hardware is...
Low quality or High quality video doesn't make much of a difference (well presets 0 to 4 give about the same performance, 5 takes a little hit), so I assume it is not related to my GPU.

CPU is high, but never maxed.
The perf is not better with csmt, and maybe a bit bitter with the nine state tracker, I'm not sure.
So.... is the slow speed coming from wine or from the open source radeon drivers?
I'm around 10 fps, with a i5 750, 16GB of RAM and a Radeon R9 280x.
I'm using a 32b prefix, should I try a 64b instead?

I'll be happy for any fps I could gain :)

Thanks!

I'm trying to install Tera Online on Mac OS X Lion, using Wine .25.
I can install the game, but then the launcher don't open and pops this error.
I could not change the certificate the way you explained, because I don't have this directory (/usr/share/ca-certificates) in my MAC, so I don't know where to find the certificates to substitute.
Please, help me! I hopping there's an easy solution, I just don't have the knowledge.
Thanks!

I created a prefix 32 and installed the winhttp… just couldn't manage the certificate.

Keep getting "Certificate authentication failed, please re-install to correct the problem"
by Leo on Thursday August 7th 2014, 3:21
Hey all!

I've been wrestling with this problem for two days now. I followed this guide ( appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=29668 ) as suggested by another user who got this fixed, without any success myself. In any case I don't see how the last bit of the guide where he meddles with his /Document/... folder is even relevant for my problem, as I'm trying to fix TERA Online, not Elder Scrolls Online...

I am using a 64-bit HP Envy dv7-7335 computer with Ubuntu 12.04 and Enlightenment Desktop Environment on top. I'm now going to start completely fresh by entirely uninstalling everything I've done so far (when it comes to wine). With thorough instructions if that be possible, from setting the wineprefix correctly to configuring the ca-certificate if that really is what needs to be done to fix things, I hope to get this working.

Could someone please give me the step by step instructions on how to manouver in this maze of options?

Thank you!

P.S. The PlayOnLinux-option also renders the same bug; certificate authentification failed... Even with the custom-made 1.6TERA version of Wine.
Still certificate error

Okay, I compiled Wine 1.7.23 (running 12.04 still and not available doing apt-get update) and still receive the certificate error. I can try to reinstall (still running as 32bit from back in the day). I am not sure what else to do at this point.
Addendum to install guide
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday July 24th 2014, 2:56
Hi

Currently, I am using wine 1.7.22

I am posting this becuase recently there have been issues the game launcher. None of this has been tested with a clean install so there is no guarantee that this is the correct sequence. But here goes...

I cannot guarantee that this will work, and since I am not monitoring this post, I cannot promise support for this. All I can tell you is that this works for me.

Follow the guide as indicated. I've read that it would also be helpful to use winetricks to install flash. If you have an Nvidia card, it would also be helpful to use winetricks to install physx. At the bottom of this I will place some links that helped me to get the most out of my GTX 650.

1) After installing and you run the game for the first time and before you get into to the login dialog box, the patcher should update the launcher several times. If after a couple of updates the launcher crashes place:

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com

And run the launcher again. You should get at least 1 more update. The launcher will the give the following error"

"Certificate authentication failed, please re-install to correct the problem"

When you get this error paste the following certificate (copied from appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=29668) into your ca-bundle.crt file

RE: Addendum to install guide

For me adding the certificate worked but the crappy patcher now always fails with "Unable to download manifest." despite the patch server being reachable.
RE: Addendum to install guide
by Samo on Saturday July 26th 2014, 18:47
This solves the certificate error message, but after that there is one "Unable to download manifest" error.

Apparently there are ways to solve this on windows:
tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Fix-for-unable-to-download-manifest-only
support.enmasse.com/tera/unable-to-download-retrieve-manifest-or-metafile

I have tried a few: DNS flush on Kubuntu(couldn't do it on Wine's command prompt), delete some .version files, checking hosts file for "patch.tera.enmasse-game.com", tried wine versions .17 and .22, win 7 and XP... but the error persists.

One of the workarounds mentions deleting the contents of "/drive_c/users/USERNAME/Local Settings/Application Data/TERA/launcher/live" but I have seen that this folder does not normally exist, but when the launcher opens, it creates it and downloads 1 or 2 manifest files, and then when the launcher gives the error message, the "live" folder is automatically deleted.

Not sure if this helps to fix this issue, here is also the output from POL log:

Glad I'm not the only one. Not sure it's purely a Wine issue since there are Wine users who aren't having the issue.

The output you provided* has been present for a long time. I'm not sure what the problem is, exactly, but it seems to stem from the launcher's connection to the patch site. Looking at a Wireshark dump of what it's doing, it is indeed downloading the manifest and saving it locally (confirmed via md5). It doesn't seem to continue after that, however. The recently added launcher.log file that's generated lists "WebGet timeout on socket IO for request '...' (...) -- requesting retry" (... omitted for brevity). Wireshark confirms it accesses the site 3 times and all 3 requests succeed (first one gets the patchmanifest fine, the following 2 get 304 Not Modified). A simple wget of the file works fine.

The requests apparently succeed when the launcher believes the connection timed out. Don't know where to go from there.

* namely regarding winhttp, winsock, and the network_change_notifier_win lines. The iphlpapi lines are supposed to be harmless. The MoveFileWithProgressW one might be as well.

It would seem that you will need a newer version of wine. If you take a look at the forum post:

tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/bug-report/topics/Launcher-crash-113783?page=12#116

It would seem that the launcher crash you are experience may disappear.

Playonlinux has installed a 64 Bit Wine 1.7.17 version for TERA Online.

After adding the re-route for facebook in the hosts file, the game launches successfully, but I'm getting 10-15 FPS in-game.

I have installed Adobe Shockwave and Flash playerS (for IE and "Other browsers") with the command line provided by POL. But I'm still having 10-15 FPS in-game.

If I use Ctrl+z to hide the UI, the game runs smoothly (Maybe 30-60 FPS) but I can't see my HP/MP/crosshair.

I know this happens even on some windows machines, but in my windows partition this does not occur on this same PC...

Could this be fixable under Wine?

1. Get rid of the clock and fps indicator.... These seem to have a real negative impact on the game.

What video card are you using???
RE: Low FPS with UI on
by Samo on Saturday July 26th 2014, 18:58
My PC specs:

AMD Phenom II Quad core @3.4GHz
Nvidia GTX770 OC 2GB
RAM 8 GB @ 1333MHz

I haven't tried the game without the FPS and clock since it is giving me the manifest error, I'll try it once it works again :)

I tried some .ini configuration (like the ones you posted) changes before but it didn't change enough the FPS to be noticed, if the game works again I'll try more config changes.

What is your processor speed, and how many FPS are you getting?
RE: Low FPS with UI on
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday July 27th 2014, 6:58
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
NVidia GTX 650 w/ 2GB Ram
RAM 8 GB @ 1333 MHz

Before switching off the clock and FPS display I was getting the same numbers as you. Once I switched them off I noticed a significant performance improvement.

But I have no idea what my FPS because.... well the frame rate display was switched off.

I had the same problem, and it was fixed by adding the line:

127.0.0.1 facebook.com www.facebook.com

to your file /etc/hosts as sugested by by Eli Wapniarski on the comments below.

You can also comment the line (#) if it gives you problems when browsing FB:

#127.0.0.1 facebook.com www.facebook.com

and uncomment it when launching the game.
Tera Launcher Crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Tuesday July 1st 2014, 16:03
Hi All

I'm using wine 1.7.20.

I've run into a new problem. The launcher started crashing on me today. So I run wine TERA-Launcher.exe from the command line.

The line that caught my attention in the output was....

[0701/235259:FATAL:x509_certificate_win.cc(1109)] Check failed: oid_info. : Success.
wine: Unhandled exception 0x80000003 in thread 47 at address 0x1045a910 (thread 0047), starting debugger...

This was also true after installing crypt32 winetricks and configuring crypt32 to use the bultin dlls.

The following output was the result when crypt32 was configured as native:

wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000024 at address 0x7b874e71 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000024 in 32-bit code (0x7b874e71).

Obviously something on the login / patcher server changed regarding the encryption that wine is not able to handle.

Any ideas on what I should do??? I should probably submit a bug report, But I would like to do so with the proper debug info attached. I have no problem installing wine-debuginfo.

I just do not know how to properly get it to provide the right info wihtout it being overkill

Please help
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes

I don't think it's a bug within Wine specifically, as Windows XP users appear to be having the same issue. See the thread TERA's Forums/Suggestions & Feedback/Bug Reports/Launcher crash. The crash appears to start in their libcef (Chrome Embedded Framework)'s SSL handling (the origin of the oid_info line in your log). However, the main thread does NOT crash on Windows XP, which allows you to still log in/play. I tried disabling the dialog but as the main thread crashes it doesn't work the same.

I'm not sure if libcef is being loaded as part of Awesomium (Garry's Mod also uses Awesomium and also has a libcef, which is sadly incompatible), or if it's something in the launcher itself that's loading/using it on its own.

I've filed a support ticket in the hopes that they look into this, but my expectations are low since Linux+Wine is "unsupported". If it is isolated to XP, they're not likely going to do much about it, leaving it up to more experienced Wine devs to track down the issue.

If I knew what to do, I'd look into it. I want to try and get it back up and running by the weekend.

Crap the cert at:

patch.tera.enmasse-game.com/

expired in April
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Apeiron on Wednesday July 2nd 2014, 2:01
Says it was issued April 18th, 2014 and expires April 18th, 2015, according to Chromium's certificate window. It does, however, say
"You attempted to reach patch.tera.enmasse-game.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as a248.e.akamai.net"
Maybe that has something to do with it? I've never looked at the certificate before so I don't know if it's always had that inconsistency.
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Wednesday July 2nd 2014, 2:49
In any case... the ssl cert should be a valid one. I've opened up a ticket with enmasse about it.
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday July 6th 2014, 9:55
K... After much discussion, it turns out that the problem rests with communication between the launcher and facebook. And after discussion in Tera's Forum, the problem is not a wine problem per se but affects people running XP based systems for the most part.

If access to facebook is blocked on the client that is trying to run the game, the game runs fine. The developers have been notified and are working on a fix.

In the meantime, IPTables can be utilized to block a specific internal host from access facebook. I found a script on the internet and with a little modification works to block all possible IPs that facebook is currently using. The script assumes that iptables is working correctly. Diagnosising any problems you might have is way way way beyond the scope of this post and as such "I canna guarantee she will hold cap'in"

PLEASE NOTE: Where you see internal.host.ip.address you will need to replace it with your computer's actual IP address:

for ip in `whois -h whois.radb.net '!gAS32934' | grep /`; do iptables -A OUTPUT -p all -d $ip -s internal.host.ip.address -j DROP; done
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Yong Chi on Wednesday July 9th 2014, 18:01
I tried that script. It does seem to block some IPs but launcher gets stuck at CertContext_SetProperty 70'": stub

Does your tera work?
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Eli Wapniarski on Thursday July 10th 2014, 3:17
Forget about the script..

Just the following line to your host file

127.0.0.1 facebook.com www.facebook.com

It should work until a fix is available
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Yong Chi on Wednesday July 23rd 2014, 18:29
your fix worked for a while until today. It is giving "Certificate authentication failed..." msg.

I did some googling around and it seems it can be fixed with adding root cert as CA just like ESO beta comments.

Any idea where we get can the cert? if I know the url, should be able to pull the cert from it...

thanks
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Apeiron on Wednesday July 23rd 2014, 21:50
Getting the same thing. From one problem to another, and this one I don't have any idea where to begin with.

How would you add the cert in the first place? Following their support page, I've imported the certs from the zip they link to containing the VeriSign certs via IE6's cert import, but that didn't help at all.
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Yong Chi on Wednesday July 23rd 2014, 22:21
You can try following same instructions with the cert for TERA.

appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=29668

Let me/others know if you succeed.

thanks
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Apeiron on Wednesday July 23rd 2014, 22:47
Just a matter of finding which cert it is. Where did the ESO group find theirs? The same fix method should work for Tera as well, as the error is (presumably) coming from Awesomium.

I have access to a Win8 machine with the game installed and also a list of the EME servers the launcher contacts upon loading (at least as far as the log-in prompt) if you can point me in a good direction of what to look for.
RE: Tera Launcher Crashes
by Apeiron on Wednesday July 23rd 2014, 23:57
Don't mean to spam, but I tried adding the same cert as ESO. It got past the failed authentication, however the launcher fails to load the downloader.dll and patcher.dll libraries ("Certificate not trusted by trust provider" in the debug logs). Not sure where to go from there. Tried adding UTN_USERFirst_Object_Root_CA hoping for the best, that didn't work.

First off

Apparently wine 1.7.23 is out which has some fixes for "crypto certificate management"

Secondly, the following is the extras that I have installed in my prefix.

www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41084

Because of the most recent launcher problem I tried to download and install the most recent root certificate from the above url by running:

Honestly, I've read everything. I'm new with wine and macs.
So far I've noticed that xmllite needs native and ie6 wont work. So the thing is that u say to add it manually and I got no idea how! I can't even find the folder, yeah i tryed opening the folder in the terminal, but no such folder exists.... So if you could help me, i would apreciate it.

Just wanted to post that everything is working for me. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, wine 1.7.17 all 64 bit. No wine tricks, no workarounds. Posted a test report, but it hasn't cleared the queue yet.
UI issues
by Robert Lee on Friday February 21st 2014, 14:34
I'd like to point out that since Bluehole Studios is a bunch of MORONS, the UI is written in flash, so it may help to install the latest windows flashplayer in your wine prefix to increase your framerate a bit, or at least get you a more stable framerate.

by Robert Lee on Tuesday February 4th 2014, 11:12
I use PlayOnLinux so some of the libraries you can install go by different names, but I just use xmllite and wininet packages, although I have to copy the xmllite.dll file directly into the Client folder still, but it doesn't take much.

3GB Boot Option
by Robert Lee on Tuesday February 4th 2014, 8:50
I can confirm that this will with 1.7.6+ wine versions without patches, however I would like to point out that I also have the solution to the 3GB Boot Option dialog that pops up. The solution is simply to use a 64-bit prefix of WINE. I have also noticed a slight performance boost using a 64-bit WINE prefix for this game, but that may just be a placebo effect.
RE: 3GB Boot Option
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday February 4th 2014, 10:14
Hello,

What do you need installed with the 64bit PREFIX? I have not tried yet as mine still works under 32bit. I just click OK for the 3G Boot Option. I also wondered if I would see more performance from 64bit. I may need to check it out.
RE: 3GB Boot Option

I am able to install and run the game with a brand new 64-bit prefix. No patches, no winetricks, no overrides.
A Couple of Issues
by Eli Wapniarski on Sunday February 2nd 2014, 7:13
I was wondering if anyone else was running into these couple of problems

1) Inside instances.... Especially SF, on more than occasion, In the middle of a battle suddenly, I cannot not turn left with my mouse. I have to turn right, then I can turn left. The problem may or may not return during the run.

2) While using an atlas, if I press a direction key while porting into the Pegasus Platform but before everything is fully synced my character starts running and I can get it to stop.

How would I do that? I'm using wineskin winery with wine 1.7.6 and also, I didn't install xmllite by winetricks since the whole language problem was still there, I just went into winecfg and added it into libraries and that seemed to get rid of the problem.
RE:
by Steffen on Sunday November 24th 2013, 16:18
I don't know what winery is but to manually create a new prefix run "WINEPREFIX=~/.wine2 winecfg". It will create a new wine folder and open winecfg. To install native dlls use "WINEPREFIX=~/.wine2 winetricks ...", with wine 1.7.6 you will need xmllite and winhttp.
Once done run the game with "WINEPREFIX=~/.wine2 wine TERA-Launcher.exe" from the game folder.
RE:
by Nour on Sunday November 24th 2013, 20:31
I got wine and made a new prefix (Not really sure if what I did is correct but I just clicked on change prefix and Add), attempted to run winetricks, it goes fine for winhttp but for xmllite it will abort and the log that opens shows the same problem that xmllite can't install 'cuz of language. I tried to add xmllite in winecfg and set it to native.. My problem now is that it says "cannot find xmllite.dll". I'm also not sure how to check which version of wine (1.7.6 or 1.7.7 that wine is using)

RE:

You can check the version with "wine --version" from command line. Also please post some more information on your setup.. Linux distribution, version, the used hardware and how you obtained/compiled wine.

To get the xmllite into the new prefix you can copy it from the previous one into ~/.wine-prefix/drive_c/windows/system32, then it should work after adding it in winecfg.

by Nour on Sunday November 24th 2013, 14:07
I can't install xmllite because of that message. Anyway to fix this? Because I'm getting the "our servers are not available" error and I think it has to do with the xmllite not being installed.

Won't play after installation.
by Alex D on Wednesday November 20th 2013, 17:26
Tried on Debian jessie with fresh WINEPREFIX 32bit chroot compiled wine 1.7.6, and winetricks everything listed above.

Eventually got to pressing the PLAY button after installation whereupon it immediately crashes with Fatal Game Client Exception (GUI error) no matter what I try.

Output looks like the following before changing dll loading options for "rasapi32", none of which helps, other than to suppress the errors about "RAS support not implemented".

I then just installed various winetricks dlls out of desparation with no chanage. Final list looked like this:
comctl32
d3dx9_26
d3dx9_28
d3dx9_31
d3dx9_35
d3dx9_36
d3dx9_39

vcrun2005
vcrun2008
vcrun2010
vcrun6sp6
vcrun6
winhttp
xact_jun2010

xmllite

Final output always more or less looks like this:

RE: Won't play after installation.

With 1.7.6 you should not need any native dll's besides xmllite and winhttp. Try with a fresh wineprefix and only those two things installed.

Nah, after the first stage of installation when it attempts to launch the Launcher for the first time, it crashes with "program has encountered a serious error and must close" windows error. Afterward, manually launching Program Files\TERA\Tera-Launcher.exe does the same.

What kind of Hardware do you have? And which exact wine version did you try on that last attempt?
RE: Won't play after installation.
by Alex D on Sunday December 1st 2013, 20:23
dual core, 8gb ram, GeForce 7950 GT 512mb, nvidia driver 304.116

installed and tested with wine 1.7.6, noticed 1.7.7 was available, then tested again on the installation with 1.7.7, no change

otherwise, wine can play low settings Starcraft 2 fine (though the game occasionally starts up with menu texture corruption claiming out of video adapter memory)
RE: Won't play after installation.
by Steffen on Monday December 2nd 2013, 2:19
Is there any further output from this crash? There should either be a popup containing further information or it is printed to the terminal. The crash dump from the debugger would be helpful in this case.

Hardware wise it should be ok to startup atleast. What you can try is to set your video memory with regedit. Also disabling GLSL might be worth a shot, see wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys for these options.
RE: Won't play after installation.
by Alex D on Monday December 2nd 2013, 15:28
Ok, it does load up finally without crashing, after just disabling GLSL in the registry. The oddities are: a dialog after clicking Start saying "3GB boot option is applied on OS. if problem occurred on system, please restore boot option to default", and slow execution. I saw the intro movie and the login screen (which seemingly works but too sluggishly).

That's the only wine output. No new dialogs, windows, prompts, nothing. I haven't used winedbg before. I removed the GLSL key and took a look at winedbg and I'm attaching output from winedbg session but it doesn't look too useful. It looks like TERA-Launcher.exe spawns TL.exe which spawns TERA.exe and the crash is in a TERA.exe thread. I tried a few times to CTRL-C and reattach to TERA.exe after the segfault but I couldn't do it (error 5). Before clicking Start TERA.exe is not running. I tried to winedbg TERA.exe directly and a WinLicense dialog said a debugger was running and restart the executable without the debugger.

If you have a specific way I should/could be running the launcher and/or winedbg, I can try that.

output:

pastebin.com/raw.php?i=y8Wmfi17
RE: Won't play after installation.
by Steffen on Tuesday December 3rd 2013, 1:46
The dialog box is normal, not sure what causes it but i get it too everytime. As for the performance you need a very fast CPU to get the game somewhat playable on wine. With an i7 at 4.3 GHz i get 20-30 fps in town but it drops down to 1 fps during pvp or dungeons with many npcs. Also try running it in windowed mode with a smallish resolution, in some cases it will run very slow if it does not like the select resolution.

The game seems to get a NULL pointer from somewhere and tries to access it, since it works with GLSL disabled it might be related to those shaders. You can try debugging wined3d or using the relay channel to maybe see where that NULL pointer comes from (if it isn't from an internal function). wiki.winehq.org/DebugChannels

Can't change servers

Launcher won't download and looks strange
by Mearo on Friday July 5th 2013, 14:47
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I installed all the winetricks listed
(xmllite.dll gave an error, and keeps showing up as unchecked in winetricks, but it seems it still placed the DLL in the system32 folder, which I also copied to the game directory as someone mentioned, and xmllite is set to *native* in winecfg)

I am running 64-bit Gentoo, but I am using a 32-bit wine prefix as recommended for this game by some posts.

When I start the launcher it looks like this:
postimg.org/image/67486o86r/

It just stays at 0%, apparently I can middle-mouse click to scroll down on the lanucher, and I see stuff like:
postimg.org/image/yst2npiq1/
postimg.org/image/u19ed2cqt/
some of the buttons appear to do nothing, some refresh the page, but the download always stays at 0%.

I am seeing the following errors in terminal:

Don't try to use the happycloud launcher download the full game lancher and start that... then it will probably spend a very long time patching itself on first launch.

I have had the ntlm_auth issue recently when I moved to a new computer... ntmlauth version 3.6.9 was installed so the error is misleading I don't remember how I resolved it, I think messing with the path and installing some samba packages. Sorry I can't help more on that end.

Ok thanks, now the launcher looks good.

However, I can't seem to make it to the login screen. It says "loading log in screen" for a while and then errors out with:
"Error: Unable to connect to Login System"
"Error Code: 8001.0001"

I think I read a few posts below of others having this problem, I don't think any posted a solution yet though.

RE: Launcher won't download and looks strange
by Mearo on Sunday July 7th 2013, 12:22
Just a final word on my experience getting this to work. (thanks to advice given by others on this page)

Even with PoL it wouldn't launch the game, but the launcher itself would give an "xml parse error" window.

Setting "xmllite" to native in winecfg made this go to the next step. Instead of the launcher itself giving an xml error, instead wine would pop up a window saying that it could not find XmlLite.dll, even though I did have xmllite.dll in system32 and the game folder.

Finally to solve that last problem I had to download a windows version of xmllite.dll from the internet and use that instead.

Now the game launches. Similarly to what someone else stated, the performance is VERY GOOD, even on high graphics, but ONLY if I press ctrl+z to hide the HUD.
With the HUD displaying I get about 1-6 fps and it's unplayable.

I've only played the game for a few minutes, but I also think that I noticed a bit of stuttering when in fullscreen, which seemed to go away when I set it to windowed mode.

Just providing feedback. I really hope they can fix whatever is causing the HUD to reduce the fps so severely. This game will be completely playable if that little kink can be worked out.

by Cory Phigler on Wednesday July 24th 2013, 18:10
Hi Mearo,

I am at this point as well and wanted to ask where you downloaded the xmillite.dll from?

I have Tera Online working on my Windows 7 system and tried just copying that xmllite.dll from my system32 folder but I still get the WinLicense -could not find xmllite.dll. I have put the xmllite.dll in TERA/drive_c/windows/system32, the TERA/drive_c/Program Files/TERA, and the TERA/drive_c/Program Files/TERA/Client. I still get the error.

I get the the "xml parse error" when I leave the xmllite wine setting at (native, builtin). But when I change it to just (native) I get the WinLicense -could not find xmllite.dll.
RE: Launcher won't download and looks strange
by Cory Phigler on Monday August 5th 2013, 18:53
Ok I finally got a copy of xmllite.dll and had to put it in the Tera/client folder to get past the xml errors. Now I have to figure out why I have horrible graphics and sound. Very choppy and unplayable.
I am using Fedora 15 and ATI 5770 graphics card. Any help would be appreciated.

Server error in launcher
by Steffen on Wednesday June 19th 2013, 13:09
If you get the "no servers available" error in the launcher then make sure that xmllite is set to "native" in winecfg and copy a native file into the Tera/Client/ folder (where TL.exe is).

Putting the native dll in the system or launcher folder did not work for me, that only produced WinLicense errors or the server list error if it was set to "native, then buildin". Seems it can only load the dll from that folder.

by Nour on Sunday November 24th 2013, 13:09
xmllite won't download for some reason in winetricks... It says "sorry, xmllite install not yet implemented for language" and thus, it's not in the winecfg. Anyway around this?
RE: Server error in launcher
by Alex on Wednesday May 6th 2015, 16:02
I faced the very same issue myself and didn't find a good answer.

I was using a Winetricks imbedded in Wineskin.

The locale check is explicitly coded inside a winetricks script which is copied to your app location. Therefore you can change it to work in a different way:

Go into terminal and write the following:
open ~/Applications/Wineskin//Wineskin.app/Contents/Resources/winetricks
Where APP_NAME is whatever you called your application.

Search for a "xmllite install not yet implemented for language" message.
Just above it is a case block.

Add a line before it:

....
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
case $LANG in
....

That should work just fine.
Problems connecting
by Catty Nebulart on Monday May 27th 2013, 17:05
I installed it following the directions in this howto, and I can start the launcher and login, and I cna patch it all without issues. But when trying to start the game I get an error that it can't connect, and wine gives the forllowing error each time I try to connect.

[0527/174358:ERROR:proxy_config_service_win.cc(159)] WinHttpGetIEProxyConfigForCurrentUser failed: 2

Anyone have any idea on how to resolve this issue?

Hello,

Which LINUX OS and version of Wine are you using? Did you try winetricks winhttp?
RE: Problems connecting
by Catty Nebulart on Tuesday May 28th 2013, 19:07
Kubuntu 64 bit, Precise Pangolin (the 12.04 LTS release).

I tried various things including building a 32 bit wine following your guide. I tried applying some of the patches in the bugs linked to the appdb page but no luck so far.

I have used wine 1.4.x and 1.5.30 and the latest svn version all without luck.
Launcher already ... error message
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday May 14th 2013, 16:41
Hello,

I tried to launch the game today. The patcher downloaded a patch but would not work. I went into the Launcher already... error loop. I did some searching on the game's forum and found many other users with the same error (Windows users).

I tried some of the suggested to no avail. Then I came across one suggestion that worked: remove or rename Live-New-Launcher.version and place with one that is working. I went to one of my sons' computer and updated Tera.

I confirmed Tera was working before taking the file. I copied the file to my thumb drive and placed it into my folder. The game now works again. I have made the file available where I share the new compiles of wine: sdrv.ms/15v6mcr.

On to the next challenge!
RE: Launcher already ... error message
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday May 14th 2013, 16:43
Oh, forgot to mention to delete the folder(s) Live-New-Launcher_-1to9 and Live-New-Launcher_10to11 before launching the game with the new Live-New-Launcher.version file in place.
Annoying Warning Message with 1.5.29
by Eli Wapniarski on Monday April 29th 2013, 9:50
Hi.

First off, the patches still need to be applied for Tera to work.

I am now getting a pop up warning:

3GB Boot Option is applied on OS....

Tera seems to run just fine, but it is annoying to have to close this everytime I click on the play button.

Anybody know how to get rid of it?

Note about Flash & Installer Hanging at Splash screen
by Eric N on Monday April 29th 2013, 9:01
The installer claims that it crashes on checking for Flash 11, but doesn't close. Running the Flash installer stops this from happening.

wine $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/Public/HappyCloud/flash_player_installer_11_active_x.exe

Now the game installer just sits on the splash screen for the game. It doesn't seem to be doing anything else, but there are files in $WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/public/HappyCloud that weren't there before (ie the flash installer I just mentioned.)

Thanks for all the helpful tutorials, hoping to get this running soon. I'm having problems when patching, here's the output.

As you can see I'm doing this on a Mac, but it's mostly the same thing at the command line. I tried manually patching the schannel_gnutls.c file but after compiling my wine binary wasn't able to load at all, complained about Microsoft Assembler or something. I'm redoing the whole thing and I think this might be where I went wrong last time.
RE:

Hello,

The two Hunks can fail. Continue with the wrest of the steps. What that means is those two sections are not needed as the section or paths for the patch changed (and work).
Got 64 bit to work
by Caden Reynolds on Tuesday March 12th 2013, 17:35
Drove myself crazy trying to figure out why i was getting the xml parse error. Turns out when you're running 64 bit of wine you need to take the xmllite.dll from the tera folder and place it into syswow64 folder under the windows folder.
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Ian on Wednesday March 13th 2013, 2:43
I can't get it to work at all. When I install xmllite via winetricks (Since I'm not going to compile a win32 prefix, or any prefix other than the default, since I don't know how, and need a step-by-step process to show me) it'll say "Path not found" and return with "Aborting"

My TERA did not install its own xmllite.dll in its folder, so I cannot move it to syswow.
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Wednesday March 13th 2013, 7:32
Ian, I have posted a link to 32bit compiled wine. As for installing in different PREFIXes, when you go to install you use:

WINEPREFIX=/home/installs (or whatever path you want), so for 32bit,

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/installs/Tera wine ~/Downloads/Terasetup.exe

Same goes for 64bit (if you are running 64bit), but you leave the WINEARCH out:

WINEPREFIX=/home/installs/Tera wine ~/Downloads/Terasetup.exe

Then, you just point the compiled wine to the launcher:

env WINEDEBUG="fixme-all" WINEPREFIX="/home/installs/Tera" /home/installs/wine/wine1.5.25.Tera/bin/wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/installs/Tera/dosdevices/c:/users/Public/Desktop/TERA-Launcher.lnk
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Caden Reynolds on Thursday March 14th 2013, 9:07
Sorry, i forgot to mention you need to have to install xmllite or get one of the web. I use playonlinux for lazy reasons and forgot that i installed it.

That being said, to cover all the bases at least, you need the same xmllite.dll in your tera folder, system32, and syswow64 folder. Then you need to make sure that xmllite is set in the wine config to be run as native.
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Wednesday March 13th 2013, 7:20
I could not get 64bit to work even when copying the xmllite.dll file. I will try again. Does it run better under 64bit?
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Caden Reynolds on Thursday March 14th 2013, 9:09
I've never played tera before so I don't know if it runs better. I do know however the game runs nearly flawlessly and my only issue is that my gfx card is too old so my settings are low.
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Sunday March 17th 2013, 19:51
Did you compile Wine for Tera to run? I cannot get 64bit Tera to run, and for some reason since 1.5.24, cannot compile 64bit Wine. I will try to compile a 64bit Wine now 1.5.26 is out.
RE: Got 64 bit to work
by Caden Reynolds on Sunday March 17th 2013, 20:40
I didn't compile wine myself i used a precompiled one. Also i used the 1.4.1 wine version.
Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Friday March 1st 2013, 13:26
Couple of items to note:
1. Need 32bit PREFIX, I could not get 64bit PREFIX working even if patches. I used a 32bit virtual machine to build. You could also build in a chroot. See wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit for more information.

2. Need to create a local git repository and use git to obtain the source files to make changes. See wiki.winehq.org/GitWine for more information.

3 Apply changes to source code. The two changes necessary for this to run are the GW2, Awesomium, patch: bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27168#c41 [comment 41 has the patch]. Download the patch, or copy paste into text editor, and save as awesomium.patch.

Apply patch to git location: patch -p1 < awesomium.patch

And change the following file /dlls/user32/winstation.c to

HDESK WINAPI OpenInputDesktop( DWORD flags, BOOL inherit, ACCESS_MASK access )
{
return CreateDesktopA("Desktop", 0, 0, flags, access, 0);
}

4. Commit the files changed. See wiki.winehq.org/GitWine for more information.

5. Compile wine. Make a directory, wine1.5.x.Tera (or whatever you want), cd to that directory and

../wine-git/configure --prefix=/opt/win1.5.x.Tera (or somewhere you want the installed version to go to pick up later).

After configure, run make > make.log 2>&1

Then make install. I found the /opt location locked from my user so I used sudo to create the folder and grant my user permission. You can use other locations.

At this point, I tar the /opt/wine1.5.x.Tera folder and move to my test machine.

6. Untar to some location /home/installs/wine/wine1.5.x.Tera.

7. Point your Tera version to this wine and test.

Winetricks installed in my PREFIX:
comctl32
d3dx9_26
d3dx9_28
d3dx9_31
d3dx9
ie6
msls31
pngfilt
winhttp
xact_jun2010
xact
xinput
xmllite

Tera installs DirectX during its install regardless if you installed via winetricks or not.

Please view the video of this working at www.youtube.com/watch?v=owOQUc1SpM8&feature=youtu.be.

Now, I need to do something about my framerate. My one computer works well with a GT 550 Ti. I have a GTX 660 Ti (new last week) but still have some sluggishness. A quick check between both computers reveals the hard drive for the older computer with the 550 Ti (I think it is this, replacement from vendor for GT 8800, love lifetime warranties) is a bit faster then the one with the GTX 660 Ti.

I will replace my drive soon and test again. If any has any other suggestions, please let me know.

You mentioned you were having issues between NVidia and AMD graphics earlier, after this install were you still having issues between the two? I'm having a 0111:0003 error (Sorry, our servers aren't available right now) error from the launcher and I tried many things lastly your steps. With yours it actually, well, gets a play button. But I get the error and cannot launch the game.

I have an AMD card in the machine I'm trying to get to work, so I was thinking there was some check they are doing that the AMD blob fails and the nvidia blob passes.

Thanks for your howto even if this doesn't work for me, I did learn a bit of new stuff =)
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Saturday March 2nd 2013, 21:24
AMD 3870 X2 would not work for this game, DC Universe, and Star Trek (those are the ones I tested). The GTX 660 Ti has no problems with Tera (I have not checked the other two as I was playing Tera). I posted a video of the game playing. The only challenge I have seems to revolve around framerates.

I know the card should work well but I believe some other hardware in my system may cause the lag, unless some of the directx calls are not working as well as expected. I do have thousands of fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. I plan on replacing my hard drive and upgrading RAM in the future and will post results.

I may even dive into the source code (my last programming was C++ for two university courses and those were many moons ago). I am not sure I would aide in the coding but am willing to give it a try.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Saturday March 2nd 2013, 21:28
I had a thought right after I posted the my other reply. You will receive that error if the Awesomium patch is not applied and compiled in. Also, I could not get this to work in a 64bit PREFIX and would produce the same error, even with the Awesomium patch.

I could, somehow, send you my wine compiled version that works. It is a 246 MB tar.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Yos on Saturday March 2nd 2013, 21:35
I had went through the chroot compiling of the 32bit, along with the awesomium patch and the desktop patch.

It would be amazing to get a working tar to test, otherwise I'm going to be buying a new video card for that machine.

Again thanks a lot for sharing this.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Tuesday March 5th 2013, 13:39
Your welcome. I understand the smoothness aspect... I purchased a GTX 660 Ti 2GB card and experience some 'lag' on my end. I can play, and do, but I wish it was less 'laggy' than it is.

You can vote on this application and maybe someone would take a look; not sure how many votes it takes though. My log has really nothing in them except fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. I will run any debug required to see where the code is 'choking' or not working as optimally as it can.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by George Kamenov on Tuesday March 5th 2013, 13:42
Well i am not sure if it will helps, but this game is acctualy CPU hungry a lot, i got experimented on intel HD3000 and still get like 15-20 fps on i5 sandy bridge.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by Ian on Wednesday March 13th 2013, 4:55
That's because the game is more single-threaded, much like GW2. Though it does have optimizations, unlike GW2, due to it being Unreal Engine. The GUI however is the main reason why the game lags so much.

I have win32 wine, but won't apply the patch, eagerly awaiting the day it's included within wine, as I dislike compiling / using make.
RE: Compile wine with patches for Tera to work
by James A. Gilmore II on Friday June 14th 2013, 13:09
Hello, I used your prebuilt Wine and got TERA running on my machine. Thank you for all of your effort!

I do think I will have to wait until some more strides are made, though. My computer is an AMD FX-6100 (3 Ghz 6-core) with a GeForce 560Ti. I can only get 8-9 FPS in the countryside and 4-5 fps in town, no matter what graphical settings I have applied (lowest possible or highest possible, no difference). The fps does jump up a substantial bit when I turn the GUI off, it feels like it's about 20 fps in the countryside with no GUI (estimating, because framerate meter no longer shows when GUI is off).

In windows, I can run at maximum settings and have ~30 fps in town and 50+ fps in the countryside.

I will continue to play around and see how this all pans out. :)

Game installs but states not connected to Internet
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Wednesday February 13th 2013, 19:22
I installed the game into its own PREFIX. Game installed but will not patch. It errors out with no Internet connection.

Wine 1.5.23
Ubuntu 12.04

Any suggestions?
RE: Game installs but states not connected to Internet
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Friday February 15th 2013, 12:53
I was able to patch the game by using the patches for GW2 (I added the Input patch as well) and compiling a new wine from my chroot. I was able to enter a world and pick a class. Well, I cannot see the character selection window any more and I am not sure what changed.

What I did to try to fix this was update my video driver (the Unsupported Hardware logo is finally gone!), and install the game different ways including using PlayOnLinux (would not patch the patcher, entered a loop).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
RE: Game installs but states not connected to Internet
by Dr. Wes Snyder V on Saturday February 16th 2013, 20:03
I was able to get it to work on the nVidia computer. I compiled 1.5.5 with the input patch mentioned above and it works on the nVidia computer. It does not work on my computer with

OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.11672 Compatibility Profile Context

So, I am looking into purchasing a vVidia card (had one but it died and Dell replaced it with the ATI).

I had compiled 1.5.23 with the patches and it did not work on the nVidia computer either, so something changed between 1.5.5 and 1.5.23. I even tried the awesomium patch that fixed GW2 with 1.5.23 and the input patch with no luck. I will continue to test. :)

I managed to get it to work using the "wine fix" from PlayOnMac, check out this page and let me know how it went for you.

The UI is exactly how you describe on my windows-based laptop. It might be graphics card/driver related...
RE: Ui sluggish
by John on Saturday February 9th 2013, 7:16
The UI for tera is just glitched period, the creators know where the UI bug is and are trying to fix it still. I think if everything is working you can upgrade it to gold rating at least. I have a ati 6950 running three monitors and when the UI is up I get 30-40 fps. When UI is down I get upwards of 80 on my win box.
