Homefront

What works

Everything works, both single player and multiplayer.

Only issues are that the frame rate is not high, the game can pause or jerk when loading graphics and on start you might need to Alt-Tab until the game is in the foreground.  But is is playable and enjoyable.  This doesn't not effect the ability to do well in multiplayer games.

The wine version (1.4.1) was manually compiled from source. Then in a fresh and clean WINEPREFIX, Steam was installed and then Homefront installed via Steam. A message box appeared asking to install PhysX, said Yes and then manually quit Steam and restarted it. On first run of Homefront it locked up the screen so I had to switch to a VC (Ctrl-Alt-F1), login, run 'killall HOMEFRONT.exe', logout and switch back to X (Ctrl-Alt-F7). Then when started game again could click on it on the taskbar and the game appeared in a window. Then went into settings and changed to fullscreen and chose aspect ration and resolution (you are advised to apply this before changing other graphics settings). Every time Homefront is started a message appears saying: Performing first time setup... Installing: Microsoft VC Redist Package but this doesn't seem to affect the game. A full install was tested with wine 1.4.1 but the game runs under the latest wine (1.5.7) without issue. People have issues with Homefront on Windows so an issue you have might not be related to wine.
