32-bit prefix
by George on Saturday January 11th 2014, 9:10
I was able to fix a bunch of weird issues, including crashes after the intro movie and random entire-world-goes-black issue by creating a 32-bit wine prefix with WINEARCH=win32 winecfg, using winetricks to set an explicit video memory size and overridding d3dx9_43.dll to builtin.
Game refuses to launch
by Jeff Cook on Thursday September 5th 2013, 23:37
OMD2 no longer launches for me. I click "Play" in Steam, the typical "Installing DirectX..." message comes up, some console output is given (nothing out of the ordinary), and then OMD2 exits and the Play button becomes selectable again. There is no indication of a problem in the console output, as stated. Is anyone else encountering this? I attempted changing the priority on d3dx9_43 to builtin as described in another comment with no change.

Want to make sure this is replicable on other systems before I report the bug.

This only occurs when winecfg is set to Windows 7 or higher.

Crashes still happening when i press any key.
This is happening to me also setting Windows version to Vista or XP.
Setting d3dx9_43 to builtin doens't stop the crash.

I was able to solve this disabling the in-game community overlay.
Hitting settings (the little gear icon on top) => In-Game => Enable/Disable Overlay

you have to access steam options and then
settings => In-Game => Enable/Disable Overlay (you have to disable in game overlay)
I have the english interface on steam so i can't tell you which is the french translation

Ahh, yes I'm stupid, I missed the option. Thank you, I have another problem sometimes my mouse is blocked in the top of the screen and she moves by herself. Do you know why ?
launch problems

I had to change d3dx9_43 to "builtin" to be able to play the game. Otherwise it only shows a black screen for a brief moment and then closes without any error message.

Issues I've had
by Maquis196 on Monday August 6th 2012, 17:35
Just to confirm, I'm going to change my rating from platinum to silver due to the following 2 issues;

1. The game sometimes crashes the instant you win/lose a level. Game is always saved so you don't lose any progress. But it happens a good 3/4 times an evening.

2. Almost as common; the game seems to detach from X! I'm not sure if this is a more serious bug that I'm reading wrong but X freezes (the clock on second monitor stops). All input from mouse and keyboard stops yet the game keeps on playing, only crashing when you die. I've had it happen to me mostly before the planning pre-first wave bit.

To fix the latter issue I have to ssh into box and kill X. Very bizarre. Game is defo only silver at this point though.
