I think that setting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo did the trick but I tried a few other things before it worked. Ran under 32-bit wine not sure if it could run in 64-bit. It only seems to work after you cd to the install directory.
