"This is a feature and bug-fix update for Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion created by xOmicron. Its primary focus is to correct several long existing issues with the AI system and related game elements."
It brings many changes and allow to select which ones to install, e.g.:
and many more, check the website.
Installation (original game and userpatch both).
Gameplay (single player tested only).
From userpatch 1.1:
Core feature update 1.1
New save filename format
Multiple building queue
Population caps to 1000
Snow/ice terrain removal
Higher resolutions (I have tested my monitor native 1650x1080 with no problems)
What does not
 Textboxs aren't displayed correctly.
From userpatch 1.1:
Windowed mode support (isn't necessary, cause wine could emulate desktop and you will have windowed mode; crash report http://pastebin.com/9iMcyC1M)
Port forwarding support (crash report http://pastebin.com/u4DC6xQY)
What was not tested
Multiplayer (I will test it later, but probably there won't be difference between 1.0c, where multiplayer worked with custom dlls)
Generally AoE II works very good on wine (with dlls for multiplayer almost everything works), but it has one big issue - it is slow. At the beginning it is ok but since all players are getting more units, game is slower and slower. When I had ~300 units (computers a bit less but also many units), scrolling was pausing game (don't know if also on Windows). What about 1000 units * 8 players? Don't know :D -- To enable png screenshots (by userpatch 1.1) render correctly, you have to install gdi+ with winetricks (otherwise colors will be wrong)

To get multiplayer working you have to use by now the directplay libraries from microsoft, still (since 2006) no open source libraries for direct play that include libraries to open sockets and close to play games, so install winetricks:
(in ubuntu/debian) sudo apt-get install winetricks
and then exec:
It will download the directplay libraries from microsoft and install them, that's all, tcp/ip will work with direct connect.
