Additional Comments

I did the following to get it working: 1. Clean install of Wine (i686) 2. Installed Alsa support for Wine (i686) 3. Installed Nvidia xorg libs (i686) 4. Downloaded Winetricks 5. Used Winetricks to install Steam 6. Installed Borderlands 2 via Steam 7. Ran the game once to complete the install (it crashes after) 8. Created steam_appid.txt in the same directory as Borderlands2.exe 9. Added the number 49520 to the txt file and saved it 10. Renamed Borderlands2.exe to Launcher.exe, and vice versa Now I can launch the game normally from Steam and it works perfectly. *Note: To get it to launch from Steam, you have to swap the names of both Borderlands2.exe and Launcher.exe (You can't just rename launcher.exe to launcher.backup or anything, Steam will eventually notice and try to "replace" the missing files, copying over both Borderlands2.exe and Launcher.exe) *Another Note: If you are using LXDE, make sure to open the game on a clean desktop. For some reason having windows up behind the game can interfere with game play. A easy fix is to simply open the game on another desktop. Also, when the game starts, you have to alt+tab to bring it into view. *Yet Another Note: The default resolution for the game is much lower then my desktop... So I had to tab out while the game was running, change my desktop resolution back to normal, then tab back into the game to change the resolution to match my desktop.

HowTo / Notes

How to start the game without the launcher

The borderlands lancher is not working with wine. But to run the game, it is this application that steam starts first. To work around the problem, do the following:

Create a file named steam_appid.txt with the contents "49520" (without quotes).

Put this files into the Steam/steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32 folder

Then, every time you runs the game, first runs steam, and only when steam is running, start the game by running Borderlands2.exe (in the Steam/steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32 folder)
