What works

Installation of version 1.8.3 under Steam. Most everything works after applying some workarounds - the game is fully playable in single player mode and co-op.

What does not

  1. Mouse capture (which is mandatory for the game to be playable) doesn't work well. You have to enable "always mouse capture in full screen windows" in winecfg and play in full screen.
  2. Launcher crashes, add "-NoLauncher -NoSplash" to startup options to workaround the problem.

What was not tested

Internet matches. The match browser seems to work, but no further testing of online matches was done.

Additional Comments

Use dll overrides: - disable: dwrite (for Steam) - native: all d3d dlls, mscoree After installation, launch once normally from Steam to complete first time installation, after which the game will fail to launch. Then apply the following work arounds: 1. Run from the console (set WINEPREFIX as needed): $ wine uninstaller --remove '{E45D8920-A758-4088-B6C6-31DBB276992E}' $ winetricks vcrun2008 vcrun2010 dotnet20 dotnet40 d3dx9 d3dx9_43 d3dx10 d3dx11_43 physx xact 2. Use the properties dialog to add the following launch options: -NoLaucnher -NoSplash

HowTo / Notes

How to start the game without the launcher

The borderlands lancher is not working with wine. But to run the game, it is this application that steam starts first. To work around the problem, do the following:

Create a file named steam_appid.txt with the contents "49520" (without quotes).

Put this files into the Steam/steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32 folder

Then, every time you runs the game, first runs steam, and only when steam is running, start the game by running Borderlands2.exe (in the Steam/steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32 folder)
