Native version available

There is a native Linux version of Skype available at the official Skype website.

Also you can use Skype for a web browser.

Working with a Windows version of Skype in Wine

In default Wine 1.7.31 installation Skype 6.21.32.104 is more or less functional if you follow these instructions:

Modify Skype's lnk file and add /legacylogin parameter or you won't be able to login.
Before running Skype, run winecfg and set Windows version to 8.1.
After logging in, click View -> Compact View.
You may want to change Wine audio to ALSA if it's set to PulseAudio (some reports indicate that PA is not suitable for Skype).

Now you can use Skype.

If Skype crashes immediately on log in after trying to show unread messages or notifications, set its status to DND on another device.

Good Evening!

I am writing about the test result I have submitted today about Skype. You asked me to specify Skype version, unfortunately, I did not find a way to edit my submission as I am a new user here. Could you please guide me how to do it? If that is not possible from my side then the version of Skype used by me was 6.22.81.104 but it should work on older and newer versions as well because of the bug fix in the latest release. I also managed to partially fix the audio. I needed to switch the Windows version to Vista/7/8.1 and run this before running skype:

alias wine='PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 wine'

linux version requires pulseaudio which I absolutely do not want on my system (pulseaudio has a habit of breaking everything related to sound). Older skype for linux clients that did not require pulseaudio are prevented from connecting to the microsoft servers, so the linux version isn't an option for me.

Now you can use apulse instead PA. Anyway, group video conference still not supported.
