Additional Comments

Reasons for silver rating: - it works fine with d3dx9 and vcrun2005 - training mode doesn't work - low fps - "common screen flickering problem" (without I would have considered a gold rating) Hardware used: cpu: core i7 870 8 gb 1333 ram graphic card: GTX 560 driver version: 304.60 fon Fedora 16 from nvidia uname -a: Linux * 3.6.5-1.fc17.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Oct 31 20:15:29 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux small how to: - create a new wine prefix - install vcrun2005, d3dx9 and steam - change the following settings (I used winetricks to change them): strictdrawordering enabled also it seems the following settings give you a little fps boost: DirectDrawRenderer opengl Multisampling disabled OffScreenRenderingMode pbuffer UseGLSL disabled VertexShaderMode hardware VideoMemorySize xxxx (set xxxx on the amount of the ram from your graphic card) - download NS2 through steam (although I tried to abort the installation of direct x while starting the game for the first time, it seems that some components have been istalled - so it shouldn't make a big difference) - start ns2 and turn everything except multicore rendering off. In addition the game has to be set up in window mode. After that I experienced a strange behaviour - the higher the resolution of the game, the more screen flickering appears. So I set my game on 1280x720 and it appears to solve 90% of the screen flickering problem. All in all it is playable. Maybe with some low fps and a weird no crosshair problem while playing marine, but well the game is still fun. :)
