problem
by matt on Tuesday May 28th 2013, 20:53
After compiling a new version of wine with the patches, I was able to get this game to run just one time. Now, using the same version of wine, I get the following errors when trying to run it from Steam:

Unhandled exception in the User Interface Application

and

Protection GUI application has unexpectedly terminated

obviously, these error messages are more verbose on the screen, but it wouldn't let me copy it.

Anyone have any ideas

Can anyone share their pre-compiled .deb packages?
Not working with patch 17195
by Bruno Miguel on Friday May 17th 2013, 6:55
I followed all the instructions to build Wine (version 1.5.22 and from git) with the patches and I still can't start the game. Everytime I try, I get the following output:

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.
err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 9: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated.

I'm running Fedora 18 32bit and I already have the samba-winbind package installed. Also, I have the NVidia drivers, version 304.88, installed.

I've tried to start the game with a clean prefix and using the prefix I had for FM2012. In both cases, no luck.

Am I doing something wrong here? Help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone got this working on wine-1.5.23?
by rob on Wednesday February 6th 2013, 14:35
Anyone got this working with wine-1.5.23 on Ubuntu 12.10?

I keep crashing, even with the patches in the bug.

How to bypass the secur32.dll crashes and freezes
by Gael R on Saturday December 29th 2012, 18:10
Just an update to say that I finally found a way to play the game with zero crashes or freezes. I just added these 2 lines to my /etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1 pws.sega.co.uk
127.0.0.1 sb-ssl.google.com

With this little hack and the patch from bug 32248 I have no issues now.

This probably breaks something somewhere, but not in the solo game, as far as I can tell.
Some new test results
by Gael R on Sunday December 2nd 2012, 19:41
So I did some more tests using 1.5.18 with the patch from bug 32348 and the full game on Steam, using a clean wineprefix

At the beginning I had the same memory corruption problems that were reported by other people. Here's the thing though: the more I played, the less crashes I encountered. Actually I haven't had a single crash today after several hours of playing (several months in-game)

I have a problem with the Steam overlay not appearing though, not sure why.

I will continue testing tomorrow.
Crash
by Guillaume on Sunday December 2nd 2012, 5:15
After have posted my test, I have tried more the game.
It appears that the game seems to freeze randomly. I have a memory corruption.

There is the log : pastebin.com/qjmE27tu

Any idea ? Due to the patches ?

named pipe patch
by Gael R on Sunday November 18th 2012, 18:45
If the game crashes with error about named pipes, you may want to try the patch in bug 32248.

I only tested it on the demo, but it may also works with the full version.
