Crash after first cutscene (Finally fixed)
by Monsterovich on Wednesday May 24th 2017, 5:13
Well, this is very old game bug. It happens only on new video-chips, especially on Intel chips.

1. Force OpenGL version to 2.1.

I have MESA driver, for myself I just did.
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=2.1 wine swkotor2.exe

and it worked!!!

2. Game works without issues with these options in kotor2.exe.

You may try to enable fullscreen and other features.

So, the game crashes when you go to see T4's character screen, making it impossible for him to level up.
White Polygons
by Bradyn on Thursday June 10th 2010, 18:50
Ok, so under wine, everything is basically white or gray, the polygons have no textures. I run this fine on windows7/xp so I don't know what the problem is. I have an intel GMA 3150, which is supported (quite well) by Ubuntu. Any resolution for this?
RE: White Polygons
by Miguel Espejo on Monday June 14th 2010, 3:57
I've got the same problem with an Intel GMA 4500. Maybe it's a specific bug of Intel graphic adapters. Any idea?
RE: White Polygons
by Miguel Espejo on Monday June 14th 2010, 4:02
Forgot to say, texts can't be read. Squares appear in the place of characters. Guess the problem comes from the same place than above.
RE: White Polygons
by Bradyn on Monday June 14th 2010, 5:07
I'm assuming it has to do with wine's problem with intel GMA cards. I would assume we either have to wait till WINE figures that out, or the stable drivers come out in october's ubuntu distro.
RE: White Polygons
by Miguel Espejo on Monday June 14th 2010, 9:04
I hope we won't have to wait that long...
RE: White Polygons
by Miguel Espejo on Monday June 14th 2010, 11:57
Solved! I found in the KotOR II App page a post by Doug Dahl, suggesting to install driconf and enable S3TC Textures. It worked perfectly for me.

If you use Ubuntu, driconf is in the Universe repository.

You are my savior.
RE: White Polygons
by Chris on Tuesday August 3rd 2010, 7:32
Can you please explain how to load this with Ubuntu? I have a AMD 939 socket and a ATi GPU and I am getting the gray and white polygons also. Thank you,
Chris
RE: White Polygons
by Miguel Espejo on Wednesday August 4th 2010, 9:01
First go to Ubuntu Software center and type "driconf" in the search tag. It will show you an app called "3D Acceleration" or something like that. Install that app.
When finishing the installation, go to "System/Preferences/3D Acceleration" and click on "Image Quality" tab. There you will see an option "Enable S3TC Textures...". It must be "ON" to work.
Hope it will be enough.
RE: White Polygons
by Ian Elliot on Friday January 25th 2013, 12:15
Thank you so much for this, I wanted to give SWKoTOR a spin again and had problems with gray textures previously. I put Wine in Windows XP mode, put it in a 1024x768 window and did what your said with driconf and it runs like a dream. Thanks.

by juby on Sunday February 24th 2013, 20:26
Not to revive an old thread just to say this worked for me too, but that's exactly what I'm going to do. Figured if someone was looking to solve the same problem this little bump could help them out.

Thank you so much!
InstallShield cannot be loaded
by Stephen on Wednesday January 7th 2009, 7:26
I get an error when I try to install. It says the installshield (ikernel.exe) could not be loaded. I looked in the disc itself and there isn't an ikernel.exe but an ikernel.ex_.

If anyone out there knows how to get this to install, please let me know!!!
RE: InstallShield cannot be loaded
by Piotr Galiszewski on Wednesday January 7th 2009, 9:40
Confirmed. I have the same error.

Wine version: 1.1.12~winehq0~ubuntu~8.10-0ubuntu1 from wineHQ repo.
Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 version

I will test some older version of wine
RE: InstallShield cannot be loaded
by Piotr Galiszewski on Wednesday January 7th 2009, 9:51
On wine 1.1.11 installation works fine.

RE: InstallShield cannot be loaded
by Piotr Galiszewski on Wednesday January 7th 2009, 10:46
I installed ubuntu package from this bug report: bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16732
On this package installation works fine. So this bug is fixed on the current git master. Wine 1.1.13 should works fine

Doesn't quite work
by Chris on Sunday August 3rd 2008, 18:18
On Ubuntu 8.04 with Wine 1.0.0, the installation works perfectly, but when I actually run the game (starting on 800x600 with lowest detail, just for testing, but higher details have this same problem), I get this:

img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/attack_mayo/Screenshot-Default-Winedesktop.png

Ew.
RE: Doesn't quite work
by David Eccles (gringer) on Sunday August 3rd 2008, 21:03
I've noticed this same problem previously on a Pentium III with an Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 card. I suspect it was some combination of things being too slow and a graphics card that didn't support the features required by the game.

It worked fine on my other computer though (Nvidia FX5600 video card, ~1.6GHz Pentium 4 processor).
RE: Doesn't quite work
by Chris on Monday August 4th 2008, 12:37
This has a ~1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, and an Intel 945G (GMA). My last computer (an HP) had integrated graphics -- I'm fairly sure it wasn't as good as this one -- and it worked. On the hardware analysis or whatever, it said that 32MB of video (memory?) was required, and while the 945G apparently has 64MB, it said the requirement wasn't met.
Game does not start
by gecos on Sunday July 13th 2008, 16:25
Hi,

after installing the game, I insert CD 1, and no matter how I try to start it (swkotor.exe, launcher.exe or autostart.exe), it accesses the cd, and then quits. Output shows:

Running in a Window?

I would like to run KotOR in a window. How do I set the game to do this?

Run winecfg and create a virtual desktop in the Graphics tab.
Freeze on EULA
by Eric on Saturday July 21st 2007, 0:32
Whenever I attempt to accept the terms of the EULA to continue install, KOTOR Installshield freezes. Any solution?
RE: Freeze on EULA
by Freyr Gunnar Ólafsson on Friday August 10th 2007, 7:29
I can confirm this. This also happens to me.
RE: Freeze on EULA
by el on Sunday August 12th 2007, 8:08
It does not freeze. There is a message window that usually appears behind the eula window. As soon as you hit yes in that new window (use the keyboard or move the eula window beforehand) the installation will continue.
Problems with mouse can be fixed.
by Onrue on Tuesday June 6th 2006, 18:36
Read more about bug bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1410>#1410, especially comment bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1410#c21>#21. I applied the patch, compiled, put the option to the register, and all works fine (mouse isn't recentered!), except that mouse cursor is shown on the screen only while mouse button 1 is pressed. Some commenters about bug #1410 said that mouse have shown up in some old CVS versions of wine. I think all that problems could be fixed.
